    Try this:
Go to Device manager, uninstall driver with "Delete driver SW for this device". Restart computer, enter BIOS and disable on board audio letting windows boot normaly. Than restart again and enable audio in BIOS. That should reset all audio settings and install new driver.

I installed 7701 WHQL which was posted earlier by @WIKIMACK but the post is now gone probably because it's a bad driver and here is my feedback...
Here is the link for the download and it appears to be a general release:
    ftp://spcust:hwwk758z@ftp3.realtek.c..._Win7_WHQL.zip

Ever since I installed 7696 WHQL, as mentioned in post #542 which had the problem with no sound which is the same case with 7701 WHQL, I'm experiencing a weird problem.

With 7696 WHQL installed and trying to go to 7695 WHQL, what happens is I run the setup.exe which does the uninstall. It restarts and the Realtek setup program runs again, I click Next and it uninstalls and restarts. Restart and basically it will uninstall and the same thing happens over and over until I click cancel when the setup program runs, and then click on finish. So I goto System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings and have it on No. Reboot, run the setup.exe, it does the uninstall and restarts and ofcourse if I restart, the setup.exe basically Installshield Wizard if I click Next will do uninstalling and ask to restart. I restart and ofcourse next would uninstall and basically it would do the same thing until I click on cancel after rebooting. I check Program Features and the Realtek HD Sound drivers are not listed. So then I have to do what Count Mike mentions in post #557 by uninstalling in device manager but I don't reboot, run the setup.exe for 7695 once again and it installs, reboot and all is well.

Now going from 7695 to 7701 is the same problem.

Not sure how to fix this as it appears that Windows is keep reinstalling the default version of the drivers on it's own even when I have the System Properties -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings and have it on No.

Also wanted to note that I couldn't System Restore either because even with 50GB, all the restore points were already after 7696 was installed.

Hi Almighty1. Your post regarding the installation of version 7701was pretty interesting and as I've never run into installation problems with the Realtek HD drivers before thought I'd give it a go.
Downloaded the drivers and unzipped them to a Temp directory. Next I removed the existing Realtek HD drivers using Programs and Features, rebooted and ran CCleaner Registry Cleaner which found 147 invalid entries all relating to Realtek HD drivers, I removed all of these. I opened up the temp directory containing the Realtek setup files and ran setup.exe as admin.
The drivers installed fine and also worked fine after a restart.
I find it really strange that so many users are having problems with Realtek HD drivers, my only problems have been with the occasional build where the sound was crap, a whole different issue to most problems reported here.

    Hello @DooGie,

I think the thing is after installing 7696, Windows seems to install the driver on it's own before the Realtek installer does even when I specifically told System Device Installation not to as seen in the attached. I use both CCleaner Registry Cleaner and Norton Utilities 16's built in one as that one works well since I used Norton's as part of Norton SystemWorks in the past 18 years without issues. jv16 which was the popular registry cleaner was the one that sometimes had issues. I noticed that in Windows 10 Build 10240, the System Device Installation setting, No entry is different than the current one on what it does.
