I don't have a problem with it anyhow. I have an HP and always use the updates that have Conexant, and I never have any problems.
It's just strange that the updates have ICEsound, yet I can't find traces of it anywhere on my PC. Again, I'm not complaining.

Anyone know what the difference between UAD drivers and Realtek HD Audio drivers?

* So now it's either a little better or little worse, depending on the source material, but still sounds great overall. It seems the low end was increased, and the high end slightly reduced, in 8509 compared to 8504 (which was absolutely fantastic here).

indeed it does depend on the systems HWID and the INF file used by the Realtek driver setup program

the ICESound service files do get installed on my friend's ASUS M5A78L-M LE/USB3 board using Realtek ALC887 audio chip with HWID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_10438576" and driver is always installed thru the HDXRT4.INF file. this behavior started back with version 6.0.1.8393 of the drivers.

every time a new HDA (nonUAD) driver comes out, I will have to delete the ICESound service key in RegEdit (registry editor), reboot and then delete the ICESound service files on the ASUS motherboard.

On the other hand, certain ASUS laptops (like ASUS X550VX) using a Realtek audio chip with HWID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0255&SUBSYS_10431130" (also installed thru HDXRT4.INF file) require the ICESound services files and the ICESound Audio Wizard tool from ASUS supports this ID "10431130" but not "10438576" or any other ID on ASUS boards as I ran that tool myself.

On my system the drivers also gets installed by the HDXRT4.INF file so it must be because of that indeed. I also noticed that this was a recent behavior, old drivers didn't add this so called service on my PC. Thanks for the useful information

I read some of your previous posts and you said you had an ASRock board. which kind? use Speccy to gather details about your board. I may also need the hardware ID number of the Realtek audio device on that board.
as I said before, the behavior started with version 6.0.1.8393 as those ICESound files were included in that version and later (an oversight by Realtek to install the ICESound files in HDXRT4.INF for many IDs - they could have created a separate section in the INF just to install the ICESound files only on ASUS laptops with specific HWIDs but did not)

and it seems Microsoft has recently de-listed the 140.9Mb 8509 download but the actual cab file download is still available (only the 7.6Mb & 76.6Mb downloads for 8509 are shown in MUC but not the 140Mb version - what is MS doing?)

Z77 Pro3 with HWID "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBSYS_18497892". I will follow your steps and delete the ICESound from my computer as well

The updates search function seems to be a little quirky I have noticed other drivers are the same way. For instance 8475 sometimes shows 4 downloads of the hda version and sometimes just 2.
