No problem Brink, it appears that Microsoft might have sorted out their recent problems with the MUC. The link works fine with IE11, Edge and Firefox. Not got any other browsers installed to try out.
The link also works with Chrome.

Both the files for the 64bit Driver while having the same file name, contain exactly the same files which seems a bit strange as Microsoft identified them to cover different builds.

I made the above comment after downloading both 64bit Files and comparing the two.

Then I ran Update the Driver from 'Sound' in the Control Panel which worked, however after the Update finished and the laptop was restarted, the 'Sound Hotkey' on the keyboard ceased to function.

As far as I know they only support Windows 10.
If you want ones that support Windows 7 and upwards download these from the Realtek ftp server.

    ftp://ftp3.realtek.com.tw/Realtek/Ge..._Win7_WHQL.zip

You don't install cabinet file, when you double click on it, W10 mounts it as a drive with it's own letter and you can run anything from it.

As CountMike says or you can create a temporary directory and unpack the .cab file to it using a programme like WinRAR.
Next open up Device Manager and find the Realtek High Definition Audio entry, right click it and select Update Driver Software. In the box that pops up select Browse my computer for driver software. Browse to the temp directory you previously created and click Next, the new driver will then install.
Personally I prefer going to the Realtek ftp server for my Realtek drivers.

DooGie and myself are providing the Realtek links to the latest updates.
Why even go into cabinet files? All you do is download the Realtek update, unzip it, open the folder and click on Setup to install the update(s).

Sound thru HDMI is not coming from CODEC chip that's apparently VIA in your case. It's digital sound transmitted from your graphic card.
CODEC chip (COderDECoder) on MB which transcodes analog to digital to analog sound (in your case VIA corporation made it, not Realtek).
HDMI is purely digital and is decoded only at the end where speakers are like in monitor, TV or decoder/amplifier or connected thru fiber optic cable or SP/Dif on MB or sound card.
Thats all well and good. Not sure where this leaves me though. Point is that up until the AU I had surround sound coming out of my speakers (through the receiver). The receiver would even show on its screen whether it was getting Dolby or DTS...
In the past whenever I had issues with surround it was either a matter of upgrading the drivers or updating the codec pack. This time neither help...
As i originally posted, the ac3filter codec which I used up until now is showing that SPDIF is not available. before the AU it didnt show that and it all worked.
    thanks.

Yeah i know, but the cabinet files were uploaded before the full package. Thats why i asked how to run the cabinet files.

Ok, sorry i didn't see it,

thanks again for uploading these drivers, i have spent years scratching my head as to why realtek driver site has a outdated realtek drivers, but driver downloaders such as driver pack solutions keeps finding newer versions.

No problem, I'm not surprised you missed it because it got slightly buried amongst the other posts.

Personally I'd never use a driver download app as you are very likely to run into a malware situation before very long.
