I had some very old version of Realtek HD Audio Driver on my Asus laptop (see in profile) and I had MaxxAudio with it, which is very useful for my 4-speaker + external subwoofer setup. My Windows started having BSOD's due to some bad driver, and also Realtek Equalizer was losing setup for the highest band so I decided to update all the drivers.

I downloaded the latest driver (7926) from here and installed it. Everything was fine until I noticed that MaxxAudio is gone, it's no longer there. So I was looking here for help and I found this post:

I downloaded MaxxAudio, but when I try to install it, I'm getting this: http://i.imgur.com/0uQMjDj.png

How to get MaxxAudio back on the newest driver? Until I found a solution, I will rollback to some older driver which comes with included MaxxAudio.

    Thank you in advance,
    Randy
I'm surprised that Maxx Audio isn't working with driver build 7926 as the Maxx files are included in the installation package

Unfortunately I'm unable to test the Maxx part out as I've not got the required Asus mobo.

I tried 7898 version too but no MaxxAudio as well. Before this try to update, I had 71xx as far as I remember. And I tried to update the driver with Device Manager and it installed 75xx as the latest driver and it had MaxxAudio. And what does it mean that driver is in Windows Catalog? I never got any update for it via Windows Update and via Device Manager the latest version is 75xx. I followed the link for Windows Catalog provided here on the forum and got a message that I have to use Internet Explorer to open it. And when I tried with Internet Explorer, that same message appeared.

What is the path to the folder you showed me on the picture? I will check if these files are present there on my laptop. There are some MaxxAudio files but no EXE. And, during installation, where you can see current progress as files which are currently being copies, I saw files with "maxxaudio" in filename but still no EXE anywhere :/

Any other idea what to try? I would really like to have the latest version since I'm always trying to keep my PC clean and up to date.

What is Maxx Audio and is it better than Realtek HD Audio Manager?

The screenshot I posted is of part of the unzipped build 7926 driver package from the Realtek ftp server. The files shown are not installed on my PC as I don't have a Maxx Audio compatible device.
I've not checked the contents of the download from Microsoft.

Have you tried downloading the latest Maxx Audio driver from the ASUS site?

Oh right. How can Microsoft have a Realtek driver that's newer than Realtek's latest driver which is 25/06/2015?

What about the motherboard brand specific Realtek drivers, are they just Realtek drivers with an audio manager software included like the Asus Realtek HD Audio Manager?

Parts manufacturers supply drivers to MS which just distributes them after eventual checking and labeling WHQL. Each one distributes them on their own schedule and except for dates of individual files, there's no telling how long they were sitting on the "shelf". Some versions may have only few or even one different files in it.

Ok so it's most likely that the MS installed audio driver is the most current Realtek driver...

I always thought that the realtek driver included a control panel of some sort, whether it was a Realtek one or a 3rd party one like Asus, Gigabyte etc...
