Good thing you are in no real hurry for it , it is likely when all these Refurb Companies ,get in another Container from a Large Organization, so it'll happen again soon .

looks ok for 1066 to me

    Gateway FX Desktop Motherboard FX510S FX510X FX510XL LGA775 D975XWT2G1 4006120R | eBay

    Gateway Support - Specifications
Just getting discouraged, I really wanted an EE 965 but it looks impossible for now, I ONLY see one website that has 3 left, selling at $129 USD, that to me is too much to play around with, not that I don't have it, but being this is working okay now, it really isn't worth spending 20 bucks or so for a used EE 965... I see TONS of Pentium D 945, which is so odd, I ask why? Okay, benchmarking the 920 I have against what I have seen with a 945 - I see an overall 13-15% better performance, but no HT. So I get a clock speed higher at 3. 40 GHz rather than 2.80 - nothing else is better, whereas the EEs had hyper-threading, which I think would have been a noticeable improvement... CPU World still say a C2D will be supported, but I don't think so, being Intel didn't give out full info on these Gateway made Watsonville 2 mobos... Only that they support - so they say, P4s, PDs, and EE 955 and 965, all under the "Presler" code name.
Putting a Quad Core C2D in here, wow, I think I'd be really happy, but that isn't gonna work I guess... So all bets are off upgrading old Betsy here, unless you or anyone else thinks that 945 @ 3.40 GHz would be noticeable. There are so many of them, all are selling at just 5 USD, including shipping, lol. Something up with them...

The Board may support C2D but if they never updated the Bios as well with the Correct Microcodes then it won't unfortunately, so only way to find out is buy one and try .....and resell if not I guess.

as for the 945 , while it is 15% better will you notice that ITRW ? you can likely get that overclocking the 920 by 10% ? if the Watsonville MB allows OCing that is ?

Just be patient and keep your Eyes Open that EE 965 will turn up :) meantime enjoy the new Laptop......

True, the price of a used "in great condition" is only roughly 10 bucks, I can throw away that and a few hours just to see if it works. There is a 2010 BIOS Update, my guess in 2010, to perhaps get that board to support the C2Ds... The socket is the same, so it will fit, no doubt! As far as overclocking that 920 D, I doubt that would be wise since it is very high in temps as normal, I don't think just an air system can support overclocking - it will fry in a minute or two.

I'll be happy as you suggest, be patient too, keep an eye out for those EE 965, I'm just not going to apy 129 USd for one, not worth it on that machine. I'll keep you posted in any news on a new EE somewhere (used of course).
If you see one, keep me posted too... And if a C2D works, you know I'll shout that out loud! LOL Thanks!

Socket 775 was used for a fairly long time. If you mean fit physically, that is correct. Whether it's safe electrically, I'm not sure.

I wonder if you're the only person making a hobby of an old Packard Bell PC. (They left the US market in 1998, according to Wikipedia. Their hardware was not highly regarded before that.)

Its a Gateway PC made with Intel parts, model is 2006. I never owned a Packard Bell... :)
Gateway left the market just around then, mid 2000s, otherwise known as eMachines.
Not too shabby that it still works, and pretty well, all original parts except the graphics card.

My apologies. I may have conflated this with another thread. (No way it could have been a PB, unless it somehow found its way here from elsewhere in the world.)

Its cool, actually, I used to work eons ago as a second job in a chain store (retail) known in the Mass and New England area called Lechmere. They were the BestBuy of the 1990s, I was just a little runt! I remember they had a huge display of Packard Bells, amazing how long ago that is and how well I remember it as if it were last week. That name (brand) was a household name back in the 90s, now, they are forever gone! Wasn't HP associated with them? They morphed - sort of - into Hewlett Packard... And they still make junk!

A blast from the past. I lived in the Boston area until 1995, so I wasn't around when Lechmere died in 1997 (according to Wikipedia). I never worked for them, but I thought of Lechmere as more of an appliance store than a seller of tech. They may have carried PCs made by Hyundai, too. (I'd bet that most people have never seen one of those.)

There is no connection between Packard Bell and Hewlett Packard. It's just a coincidence of names. HP was founded by William Hewlett and David Packard. It originally made electronic test equipment. That part of the business may have gone mostly into their Agilent spin-off.

Interesting factoid, I never knew Hyundai made personal computers. What ever happened to their brand, other than being a car maker now? I did sort of know there was no link between the two Packards, I should have remembered that - slipped my mind. I never was a fan of HP products. If you go online to buy one now, they still are selling old technologies, DDR3, just wireless A/B/G/N, Bluetooth 4.0, 4th or 5th Gen Intels, etc... I see they have newer ones that are very expensive for what they are with DDR4, but almost all other new laptops now (Even the cheap bloated PCs at Best Buy and Walmart) all have DDR4 RAM, 6th Gen Intels. I went on Dell's online store, and pretty much all their PCs now are with DDR4, A/C wireless, 6th Gen Intel iXs, with future proof support. I happen to use an HP at my office (Government Agency) and I can say with confidence as well as all my fellow co-workers, THEY ARE HORRIBLE, both their towers and laptops.

Lechmere was an appliance/home furniture/home products, more like a Target, but they did have a HUGE PC and Electronics section. I remember selling the first digital cameras as a household item. They had a huge selection of CDs for music, and audio devices. So it was a combination of many household products, with a little more emphasis on new electronics, TV, PCs, Macs, Camera, Camcorders, it was exciting at that time

With my employee discount (I was so proud, lol) I bought my first Sony Trinitron TV there. Wow, I was so excited, and couldn't wait till HD, as our government sort of talked about the digital transition to happen in 1993-94, so sad. That was when Japan was still going strong!
