    Second Monitor Screen Frozen after Update


    Hi,
    I have an ASUS Zenbook UX31E. It had Windows 7 pre-installed. I have an ASUS docking station and connect a keyboard and second monitor which is a 19 inch SyncMaster 2023 by Samsung. I bought it in 2009 and it’s not a widescreen, so I have to compromise with the resolution, but it’s fine. My mouse via USB key is Microsoft Arc Touch.
    Three days ago I updated to Windows 10 and everything was working well until yesterday. Both screens froze, neither the mouse nor touchpad worked. The cursor was blocked. I think it rebooted. Still unable to log-in. After a few reboots I could log-on with my laptop which is now working normally. The problem is the second monitor. It’s still showing the log-in screen and a frozen blue dot. The cursor doesn’t show and the mouse doesn’t work on it. I’ve disconnected and reconnected. I’ve rebooted loads of times. I’ve disconnected everything, router, docking station etc.etc. Still nothing. The same frozen screen reappears.
    When I go via Control Panel to display, the second monitor is not there. When I go into devices and hardwear, it’s not there either.
    I’m prepared to buy a new monitor if I was sure it would work as the current one is from 2009.
    Any suggestions on how to fix are welcome.

    Hi and welcome.

    Can you try the other monitor on a different computer?

    When you reboot, do your select restart or shutdown?

    I can get my old PC from the loft and try that tomorrow - thanks.
    I've tried both restart and shutdown but no reaction from the screen.

    My monitor is working perfectly with old pc in Windows Vista. Still the same frozen login screen when reconnected to docking station and windows 10

    When I go to device manager and choose the samsung monitor it says "this device is working properly" but when I click on "events" tab it says "device not migrated"
    Anything I can do?

    Does the docking station have its own GPU or does it just pass through the connector on your laptop? Press the Windows Logo key and the P key. Then select PC Screen only. Then do it again and try Extend. Post back what you see and what happens.

    The docking station does not have it's own GPU.
    Nothing changes when I follow your instructions. The screen is still frozen in logon.

    Plug just the monitor into the laptop, without the docking station, and see what happens.

    Sorry, how do I do that? My monitor has a VGA connection but my laptop doesn't have a vga port.

    Hi again,
    don't know if this is relevant, when I go to Device Manager, under universal serial bus controllers there is an unknown usb device (set address failed). When I look at "general" says windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43). When I try to update driver it tells me - best driver is installed. Under "events" - could not be migrated.
    It means nothing to me but hopefully it does to you.
