Ok, then i'll disable the automatic driver updates in Windows and download newer versions straight from nvidia. Or even use the built-in GeForce Experience utility.
Since i have been using an older NVIDIA Driver i do not ever get updates through Windows for any new version and this is without doing anything like you explained. Do not bother with GeForce Experience just another running process for your PC and not worth it IMHO. Just check NVIDIA every so often for updates, it is the way i do it.

    I agree with that totally.
I've blocked Windows Update from updating Nvidia drivers and always download them from the Nvidia site.
I also use Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode to uninstall the previous drivers before installing the latest ones.

I've never had any display problems using this method.
It is not that it is unsafe to do it this way, but tends to give you older versions sometimes and cause issues to some. Also you can not customize your install this way and as said about the GeForce Experience you will end up with it installed. I was trying to recall name of that DDU uninstaller to tell this member, seems my AV flags it as a virus every time i tried to download it so i left it alone and just use Custom Install and clean older drivers there, so far never had issues with drivers.

There were a couple of builds of DDU that were flagged as containing a virus but both were false positives and the author Wagnard soon sorted this out.
To be honest I don't install GeForce Experience any more as I found it of no use to me. All I install is the Display Driver and PhysX. Although the Vulkan Runtime Libraries now get installed with the display driver but I suppose that Vulkan is the up and coming thing for graphics.
Apologies for going a bit off topic here.

Hmm... i do not see these Vulkan Runtime Libraries installed so far. All i know is i install everything except GeForce Experience.
No need for apology something i never knew of about these libraries. I will look further but found nothing installed in Programs and Features or in my Revo Uninstaller.

In Programs and Features, I took a SS

These are definitely installed with the last three Nvidia releases.

It could possibly depend on which graphics card you have. I'm using a GTX970 at the moment.

Have a read here Vulkan runtime libraries what it is?(help) - Windows 8

Probably because i am still using driver version 362.00, but also have a GTX 970 SSC Card. Well does not explain that much on reasons for these libraries in the driver at Tom's Hardware, i have read about it more in the release notes it started with driver version 364.51 that is after the one i have. Here is more on it........

That will be the reason, Vulkan was introduced on the last of the 364.xxx drivers.

First Vulkan supported game I see I'll probably buy it it looks to be very fast here Exclusive DOOM 1080p 60FPS Gameplay with Vulkan API on GeForce GTX - YouTube
