AMD HD audio speakers option has disappeared since win 10 upgrade

My on-board sound system has stopped working since upgrading to Win10

My system reports that the AMD High Definition Audio Device is installed, but I only see the HDMI device in the sound system dialog, no speakers. If I plug in a USB headset, it registers as a USB sound device in addition to the AMD HD device and I get sound thru it ok, but no speakers option and nothing thru the speakers.
    I have tried :
    • deleting all audio devices and rebooting
    • Reinstalling the Realtek drivers
    • Reinstalling AMD Catalyst
    • Reinstalling the motherboard chipset drivers package
    • I have 'show disabled devices' checked
    • I have 'show disconnected devices' checked
    • I have checked that the sound board is enabled in the BIOS (it's showing in the system but just thought I'd check there are not 2 parts to enable)
    • I have replaced the physical speaker set in case they were faulty (it's an HP USB/micro phono connection)

I only have one item that's showing as not working (no drivers found) and that's a PCI serial port which I don't think is relevant.

    any help appreciated

    cheers

Hello Rokhi Welcome to the Ten Forums!

As seen here with an older model Creative sound card likewise what is seen often for onboard sound as well as not everything as far as software updates as well as driver updates are downloaded and installed during the upgrade to 10 or even when seeing a full clean install of the new version. For the older model PCI Express expansion card here each time a brand new Windows Insider Preview build arrives being a new developer build a trip to the Creative support site might be necessary to get the entertainment consoler with speaker settings, EAX effects, Crystalizer, euqalizer, sound input mixer, etc. back running again!

Likewise for onboard audio see more then just the basic driver install go on you will likely need to go to the Intel support site having looked at your system specs if the same for perhaps the 8.1 updates for both drivers and software while mostly to see a fresh install of the software portion. Sometimes that may require reinstalling the drivers as well in order to get the app portion back running again. When looking up the model board you have listed on a Bing web search I immediately came across the Intel support page for the board you have found at: Drivers Software

Hey, Thanks for your reply and ideas.
I had checked the Intel site but there appear to be no win10 drivers for my Chipset (Q35)
Having done some more forum searches, it seems my options are - roll back to win7 (admit defeat) or install a new sound card.

I think the answer will be upgrade the sound card and disable the on-board one. My 3rd party video card is working fine, and all other stuff seems ok (DVD drive playing up but I think that's probably dust in the lens and anyway, I hardly ever use that now - seems that's going the way of the 3.5" drive)
USB seems ok, and I have USB extension boards.

    Or upgrade my motherboard (ugh!)
    Or new PC/lappy (not happening)

Maybe new soundcard will be best interim option.
    Opinion?

According to http://www.intel.com/assets/pdf/prodspec/dq35jo-tps.pdf that MB has 4-channel (2+2) audio subsystem using the RealTek* ALC268-GR audio codec and Realtek drivers should work. It's an older codec chip so you may need to get older drivers.
HDMI Audio output is on the GPU only, nothing to do with sound on board.

My goof there! I should have mentioned the fact you might end up needing to go with 8.1 not 10 drivers and software updates! For the old tv tuner card as well as older model sound card the tuner/video capture having been long discontinued in fact the web updater for the Creative card solved the 8.1 updates issue simply going for those from starting up the download already seen a few builds back. The tuner card however being the discontinued PCI type expansion saw results when taking the 8.1 updates for the newer PCI Express model! Ironically they must have both seen the same chip only being in the different form as hardwares go in order to see the same stuff work on the long time dead model. But it took!

Likewise I would go back and check up on the 8.1 updates to see if there are any since there is a far less likely chance of compatibiliy issues coming up between 8.1 and 10 while 7, 8 drivers are rather out in limbo in that regard. Generally it takes a good year or so for the older hardwares still being supported to see updates come out for the latest newest version. I had to wait when 7 was first out in beta for the 64bit Vista drivers for the same model tuner card but the first card which quit on the last build. I did get the newer model PCIe card but that lacks the RCA composite type inputs I still need and why I still keep that oldie going until it goes belly up finally.
