My laptop specs is on Post #34.
Only overkill for this or the Mushkin you're looking at is, strictly technically speaking, they are SATA III (600 Mb/sec) capable drives and it looks to me like your machine only provides SATA II (300 Mb/sec) transfer rates. However, this by no means implies that you won't easily perceive the real benefits of this upgrade in increased speed. I don't think you're necessarily going to find or truly save anything digging around for an SSD only capable of SATA II nowadays.

So, in summary, NO it's not overkill as long as you don't get hung up comparing (unreal world) benchmarked performance in your system versus other folks' systems - not that I would expect you to...

    OK. Thank you.
$2000 before taxes ( plural ) is too much to absorb anyway.

    Yea. That's in Canada....................eh.

Think I'll settle for that $85 one you posted.
Samsung makes one of the Best SSD's very fast also. but that drive is pricey. I am not familiar with laptops David, Maybe @whs is, as I don't know if their is a difference in sizes that will fit into a Laptop vs Desktop. My 2 favorites are SSD's made by Intel and Samsung. Also does your laptop have sata 3 support?? as that will make a difference in the speed options on a SSD SATA 3 vs SATA 2 For your 1st try, maybe the 85.00 one is ok......you can also get a Samsung 250 for same price thou. Do some research on each brand....I would....and did. :)

    Dam it....Word Man beat me....lol :)

I put the Samsung 850 EVO both in my (June '15) Dell Laptop and my Wife's Acer Aspire 5250 laptop (December '12) and, although I was only a bit annoyed that she got half the (useless benchmark) speed in her laptop that I got in my laptop, she's very much pleased with the results and chugging along like a champ on it. Both of these, BTW, had the original HDDs kicked to a $13 or so USB3 enclosure and are now used to capture periodic full MR images.
