I got the error code 52 in device manager and after researching on google I edited the registry to remove the upper limit filter. I then uninstalled the drives and reinstalled. That worked and the drives now show in "this PC" I also put this pc on the desktop for easier access,

Same problem but worse. I've an Unknown Device in Device Manager. Cannot get it recognized.
    Successfully ran command as Admin in Command Prompt: "reg.exe add HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0 /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001" (saw in an 8 forum)
Rebooted. Nothing. Missing from DM altogether.
Weird, because I installed 10 from a DVD in this PC.

    Mobo: Hewlett-Packard 2192
    CPU: AMD A6-5200 APU
    Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 8400
    8GB RAMAttachment 20056
This may not be the case for everyone but I had this problem. I had just updated from W8 to W10 using the ISO download. Once W10 was installed I lost my DVD Drive. Try this. If you have just completed this upgrade, and if your motherboard supports SATA 3, then you must use a SATA 3 (Blue) cable to connect your DVD Drive, even though it is a SATA 2 device. I done this and hey presto-there it was!

My drive works fine in Windows 7. I used the drive to burn the iso to install Win 10, and I used the resultant DVD in the drive to install win10.

The drive is detected in Windows 7 using Belarc Advisor as
    "HL=DT-ST DVDRAM GH22NS50 ATA Device [CD-ROM Drive]"

But as you can see from the attached screen shot it does not show up as a drive in Win 10 Technical Preview, build 10041.

    Folks,

I had a similar issue with Windows 10 not seeing the DVD drive, was fine in Windows 7. Followed the link to the registry add and it's perfect now so cheers for this. Still have a couple of other issues after my upgrade and I'll look elsewhere in the forum for a solution.

    cheers,

I ran the command as noted in a previous thread and now my Laptop boots up to a black screen. I tried to do a system restore for the last three dates and it doesn't work.

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

Is there a way to undo this?

DVD not visible: here's another fix

I had a problem similar to the ones on this thread. After upgrading from win7 to win10, my DVD was totally invisible to win10. I did a chat with microsoft answer desk. It took 2 hours with them controlling my computer remotely but they finally fixed it. Here's how: They went into device manager and uninstalled the SATA driver and then did a full reboot. I believe the registry contained some bad info that caused win10 not to look at the DVD device even though it saw my other 3 sata devices (hard drives). By uninstalling the SATA itself, win10 was forced to totally reinstall it on boot, including all the attached devices. I hope this helps some others on this thread.

    1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator.
    2. Copy and Paste following and hit enter
    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001
    3. Type Exit and hit Enter
    4. Reboot the system.
This works. Kudos to the submitter.

Windows 10 does not recognise my DVD player

I have also recently upgraded to Windows 10 to check it out. To be honest I liked it, however for some reason it did not recognise my CD/DVD drive. DVD's would not play and the CD/ DVD and drive did not show up in the MY computer section or anywhere else. I'm not very computer savy but played around with it for a couple of hours/days but after a few days I went back to my good old Windows 7 software on my HP PC Pro. All works fine. Is there any very easy way I could get the new Windows 10 to work as it should? I have not added or changed anything else just upgraded. Some people have suggested that I add some code to the computer to sort it but others have told me that this could be a hack as a number of hackers are using this to hack into people like me who don't know too much about computer stuff. Surly MS must know about this is a problem and will issues a fix, wont they? Thanks

My desktop can't see my DVD drives after installing Windows 10
Here is what worked for me on the first attempt. Follow the instructions precisely.

Resolution 3: Manually fix corrupted registry entries

Note To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help verifying that you are an administrator, go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

This problem may be caused by two Windows registry entries that have become corrupted. To use Registry Editor to delete the corrupted Registry entries, follow these steps:
    • Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.
    • Type regedit in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
    • In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    • In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    • When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    • In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, go to the next resolution.
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    • When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    • Exit Registry Editor.
    • Restart the computer.
