Not sure if you also have a sound blaster. If you do:
    Open Device Manager->Sound->Creative...
Disable it then re-enable again until you get sound. Might have to do it few times.
Thanks for the reply, however it simply does not even show in the device manager despite reboots or restore.
Redownloaded drivers won't install as it tells me the device is not present.
Also found that after this 'upgrade' cannot open anything from the W10 start menu so cannot open command prompt as admin to run sfc.
    Cannot rollback as no option.
    Machine now totally screwed.

Very late but here I come. I uninstalled SBX before installing Realtek HD, but I do not know if it works without uninstalling.
The solution that worked for me was installing the Realtek HD Audio drivers (latest from official site) and then installing SBX .

    SPREAD TEH WORDS!

I had a similar problem...... it looked like sound was working in Windows 10, but there was nothing coming out of my speakers.
That was just one problem with my initial install. There were several, like the time zones only showing the Pacific Time Zone.

I never could get Win-10 to boot up without stopping for a password, so I finally decided to bite the bullet, so to speak, and just start over with a Clean Install of Windows 10 to a new (spare) hard drive.
During the install, I finally figured out I could complete the install without ever putting in a password. Then once the install was complete, I was able to set the time zone correctly and I was elated to find I finally had sound, not from my PCI Sound card, but form the On-Board sound chip, on my 10 year old motherboard. Eureka! Success at last! Now EVERYTHING works.

I still don't know what went wrong with that first install, to a spare HD, but something sure did. It was a mess.
So if nothing else works, RE-Install and start over. That's why they call it Beta TESTING! TESTING being the key word.
Nobody is actually RUNNING Windows 10, yet, because it's not even been released in its final version.

    Good Luck!

Well, it is NOT beta software even now, but many people feel like they are just testing
    for bugs.

It's really a sloppy way to put software out there, but they have an argument that
its "free" right now so no one argues the point.

I just explained i another post why this is happening basically its because your online when doing the Windows 10 install do it off line have all the drivers handy and then do the entire Windows 10 / installing drivers software offline meaning yank the RJ45 cable from the port or if you use Wireless make sure at no point your connected to the Internet then just go ahead and install it worked like a charm for me. when you have everything installed plug/connect to the internet for updates Works for people having the problem With Ai Suite not wanting to install on Windows 10 to and properly a whole lot of other problems "do it off line m8" then when your rdy you can just connect with ur MS account if you have one i have had no problems with doing it offline i even used my Windows 8.1 drivers for Windows 10 install np and once i connected to the Internet they got updated with no issues

Same problem here since the latest windows update on the 24th. Speakers stopped working but jacks were ok so i ignored it. Today I tried to fix it by reinstalling drivers. First I noticed that the playback devices only shows nvidia hdmi audio and a couple of bluetooth devices i had registered. No speakers, no mention of my soundcard (soundblaster recon 3di). Went into device manager, no soundblaster anymore, and no mystery devices to reinstall and not listed in dxdiag, looked in bios, no mention of any sound device. Tried to reinstall creative drivers but kept getting the no supported device messages. After a few hours I found a third party driver checker type program that showed the soundcard as existing but 'unplugged' with a driver installed for it.

So....how do i 'plug in' my soundcard in my laptop that's already there?! Can't find a way to force windows to detect it and re-add it to device manager.

    Going quietly insane.

I realised this is an old thread but i just wanted to add that the enable/disable from device manager works.
The other way i managed to get this to work was to uninstall all devices under "Sound" in the device manager and restart the comp to use default sound drivers.
Perhaps this is worth looking into, there are some conflicts usually if one or two of your other hardware pieces comes with an integrated sound card/driver.
An example would be, Realtek which comes with some motherboards, NVidia GeForce sound which comes with the graphics card + you would be using a standalone soundblaster card as well.

Just some additional information, all my drivers are up to date.
