I would just use a stand alone desktop, running Windows 7, install the GWX Control Panel, or isolate it from getting on the Internet, use it for just the printer.

That is probably the best solution right now.

Contact Nice about the error message. It could be third party security software or the spooler needs flushed.
Uh, well the thing is that the employee who uses that printer also does other stuff for the company, most of which needs networking/Internet. We're upgrading everybody to Windows 10, so I didn't think there would be any issue with it.

Easier to restart a COM port because of a bug than to give him a WHOLE SEPARATE COMPUTER just for occasional printing...

I also don't think the error has anything to do with the specific drivers. The Seagull ones did it too. Disabling the COM port and re-enabling it fixed the error, so it's a Windows bug if anything, not something Nice would be able to control.

As I stated before, just isolate the one machine just for the label printer and have it run Windows 7. When they need to do any printing, they can use a KVM switch to swap over to the other machine and still use the same Keyboard, mouse & monitor. In order to isolate it from going out to the Internet, you would have to use either a Gateway with VLAN's or a Smart Switch.

Isolating that machine for the printer from the Internet, does not allow it to automatically upload updates and no one can try and use it for trying to go online. It would basically see the internal LAN, but never go outside to the Internet.

I get what you're saying but that's still completely overkill. I'd rather just use the "disable and re-enable the port" trick until the "bug" is fixed.

It is the way that it is done all of the time. There is no way of Nice knowing about their issue with their software.

Until Nice fixes their problem, Do whatI stated above. That is standard SOP with that particular printer.

Serial printers are still widely used in the point of sale world. We have multiple customers with multiple problems with this. So far the only permanent solution that I have found is to roll them back to previous build of windows.

Yeah, it seems like the "disable the port and re-enable it" method is the only thing that works for now.

FYI: The pre-1511 builds of windows 10 work fine with serial ports.
