    [Bluetooth] Multiple devices connected

    Hello.

First of all, this is my first post, so sorry if it's a noob question and/or if I missed some posting rules.

I play games on Steam using an official Xbox 360 Controller since 2011 without facing any single issue so far. Now I'm planning to buy an Xbox One Controller, but I have some questions about its wireless connectivity. I know that there are basically two models, the ones which need the Wireless Adapter (Microsoft Controller + Wireless Adapter: Amazon.com.au: Video Games) and those that work with Bluetooth (Xbox One Wireless Controller - Grey Blue: Amazon.com.au: Video Games).

I would like to buy one of the latter as they seem to be a more recent model and also to have a better grip. Since I also use a Bluetooth headset to play, is it possible to have more than one device connected to my PC via Bluetooth at the same time? I read something about the "mastery-slavery" control mode under which Bluetooth technology works that guarantees that the master (my PC) can have 7 slaves (the external devices) connected to it simultaneously, but only if they're from different types (?).

Could anyone kindly clarify this to me, please? I read several pages and posts regarding this subject, but I'm still unsure about it and I wouldn't like to buy an expensive device such an Xbox One Controller to find out that it doesn't work as I intended.

    Thank you very much!

I am using both a Xbox Wireless Controller and a Arctis 3 Bluetooth Edition headset at the same time using Bluetooth.

There was a thread here a couple months ago where someone had problems with their Xbox Wireless Controller using Bluetooth. He ended up buying the Xbox wireless adapter to use instead of Bluetooth. I have not had any problems so I don't know why he was having problems. If I ever had problems I could always buy the Xbox wireless adapter and use it instead.

The following shows my experiences with this:

I have the Xbox Wireless Controller - Grey/Green. I normally connect it with Bluetooth but it can also connect wired. It did not come with a wire to do so but if needed I can use the USB-A to Micro USB cable that I use with my phone charger.

When I got the controller I had Bluetooth connection problems but Microsoft said I probably needed to update the firmware. That was strange because I just bought controller. I tried the Xbox Accessories App but it could not find the controller using Bluetooth. Microsoft said I had to update the firmware using a wired connection. When I tried Xbox Accessories App with the Controller being wired it found the controller allowing me to update the firmware. The controller worked much better with Bluetooth after that.

I also use the Arctis 3 Bluetooth 2019 Edition headset. I normally use it with a Bluetooth connection but it also works with a wired connection. It has 3.5mm wires for both audio and microphone connections.

My computer, the Xbox Wireless Controller, and the Arctis 3 Bluetooth headset support Bluetooth 4.0. I can use both the Xbox Wireless Controller and Arctis 3 headset at the same using Bluetooth. However, because of the limitations of Bluetooth 4.0 I can't use the Headphone using Bluetooth Stereo if I want to use the microphone at the same time.

To use Headset with its built-in Microphone I have to select the following:
Playback: Headset (Arctis 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free AG Audio)
Recording: Headset (Arctis 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free AG Audio)

To use Headset without its built-in Microphone I can select the following:
Playback: Headphones (Arctis 3 Bluetooth Stereo) *
    Recording: not used

    * Note Headset (Arctis 3 Bluetooth Hands-Free AG Audio) can also be used but audio is limited to Mono only.

The difference is that Bluetooth Hands-Free AG Audio uses Mono audio instead of Stereo. This meets the bandwidth limitations of Bluetooth 4.0
