Problem with a 64gb USB Verbatim flash stick

This evening I wanted to transfer a 11gb video from an external hard drive to a 64gb USB flash stick (sometimes called a thumb drive or pen drive), but I noticed there seemed to be an 'extra drive' showing on 'This PC'....drive (H).
I think (but am not sure) this is a result of my previous failed attempt(s) to create a bootable Windows USB drive.
I'm guessing at that because of the name drive (G) seems to have acquired. (WinToUSB)....a program I have on my PC.

The solution is probably very similar to a problem I had a couple of weeks ago with a Toshiba external drive....a problem I was able to resolve with the help of some quite clever guys here on Ten Forums.
    (you know who you are).

I'm over 70 so I don't always absorb (or remember) information I've been given in the past, so I'm asking for help once again. I've attached a screenshot to show the problem.

Just goes to show certain programs in the wrong hands (like mine) can cause havoc.

    Welcome back @Milton,

Similar, but different enough to be worth asking for further advice. As I said last time...
...do start another thread if there's anything else we can help with.

Yes, WinToUSB (G:) is the right size (57.4GB) to be your 64GB flash drive. Don't worry about the slight difference in size, that's just because Windows counts a GB as 1024MB, while the usb manufacturers call 1000MB a GB (because it makes their drive sound larger ).

There's not enough information in your screenshot to say what 'USB Drive (H:) is. A screenshot of Disk Management would help identify it. At 100MB it's small enough to be a second partition on the USB stick, possibly a boot partition made by WinToUSB as part of your attempt to make a bootable Windows usb. A Disk Management screenshot would confirm that.

Looks like you should completely reformat the 64GB stick before using it for your video files, but exactly how best to do that must await the Disk Management screenshot. Note that the usb will have to be formatted as NTFS or ExFAT because the Fat32 format has a 4GB maximum file size limit.

Bree, that is so obvious that I have never thought about. I have never tried to copy a file larger than 4Gb to a FAT32 USB, but I'm sure that when I try it (and fail) I will never think that the problem is the size limit! Brilliant and extremely useful information!

Also of consideration is that Windows cannot format any drive over 32GB as FAT32, it's a limitation of Windows with FAT32. I'd also go with either exFAT or NTFS mainly to get past that afore-mentioned file size limit.

Here's the Disk Management screenshot. BTW....I've disconnected my external drives (usually I have 2 connected) to avoid confusing myself.
I normally prefer to format my flash sticks / external drives with NTFS as I am aware of the limitations of FAT32.

As I suspected, H: is the boot partition for your USB stick. You don't want that, so it can be deleted. You should be able to do this in Disk Management, right-click on the (H:) partition on disk 1 and select 'Delete volume...'. Then right-click on the WinToUSB (G:) partition and select 'Extend volume...' to let it use the unallocated space left after deleting H:. It is already ntfs format, so you don't need to reformat it.

Finally, change the name from 'WinToUSB' to something more appropriate. You can do this in Disk Management (right-click on G: and select Properties) or in the 'This PC' screen of File Explorer.

OR just format the USB as NTFS... That will take care of everything!

    @ Bree

I did as you suggested with drive (H)....and now it says 101 mb 'Unallocated'.
When I right clicked on the WinToUSB drive (G)....the option to 'Extend volume' is grayed out....so I am unable to use it.

    @ ddelo

I did just that earlier last evening....I thought the same as you...would sort everything out.
.....but it didn't......the 'extra' drive was still there.

    @ Bree

I've just had a quick glance at 'This PC' and the extra drive is NOT there. So I'm assuming I just reformat the WinToUSB and rename it ...and hopefully that will be job done ?

You'd have to delete both partitions first, then create a new one using the whole 64GB before you could do that. Probably take as long as my suggested approach.

The alternative would be to clean the usb first with Diskpart, as Milton did previously on the 'Toshiba problem' here...
