    I have two internal hard drives - the C and E. Both are functioning perfectly. Do is the DVD.

    Sorry, I am a newbie at all of this but how exactly do I "Ok try this then, at a Admin prompt type this WinSAT formal might have to reboot after"

    I take it fried controllers in the drives is not a good thing...

    I take it fried controllers in the drives is not a good thing...
    It isn't good news indeed.
    Surge protection only works once if it works at all.

    If you have valuable data on those drives and have identical healthy drives then I can help you. If not you just have to accept your loss.

    Sorry to bring bad news but that's just how it is.

    They were essentially back-up drives so while I have lost some source data I can back-up onto new drives which I am about to go out and buy. There's nothing critical so I wouldn't need to pull them apart and cannibalise parts.
