SU should be sufficient as that runs EVERY command as root --you don't need SU AND SUDO. !!! You could also login as root although I'd only recommend that as a last resort -- As root you have NO protection if you issue a command that destroys your system. Windows is safer in that regard !!!!

I am surprised though in OS'es themselves destroying HDD's. I've had the odd HDD fail (HDD failure is a much rarer event than you might think) but that's been because the HDD has been mis-treated (physically) or simply a defective piece of hardware - must have been made on the Fri night shift !!.

Still we always learn something on these Forums. !!!
