Hi, yes, if you set up the default action in Control Panel, Autoplay for it.

Hmm, well, I'll qualify that (I don't use autoplay and haven't for years).
    1. Explorer opens if I specify that.
    2. Zoom player opens if I specify that, but no media is loaded...
    3. If I specify 'ask me every time' - nothing happens.

Auto play does not work for my optical drive - no matter what type of media I use. This seems to be an issue for many folks. I've exhausted every possible solution to no avail. My system does recognize a USB drive perfectly, and opens Explorer - that's the option I selected. This is a real head scratcher.

Hi, this thread lays out a fix which also worked for me a long time back on Win 10.
As you might expect, it may not be the right one for everyone.

Ah - FINALLY! The solution is simple. There is a belief that setting a registry value will fix this:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091
Well, what did the trick for me was to rename the key to:
"XNoDriveTypeAutoRun . . . " because changing the dword did not fix the issue.

AP appears to be problematic in W10. The statement made to me by a MS tech, as mentioned earlier in this thread, was not accurate: autoplay can indeed launch third-party media players. However, in my case it took a reversion to an early image when that worked, then a gradual customization of the system and install of programs, checking frequently to see if AP still functioned...which it has to this day.

Agreed, AP is messy - well over 100 registry entries. The folks at MS need to clean up the registry of legacy entries.

And, there was no way I was going to rebuilt the OS on a new box.

I've been in contact with MS regarding a non-working auto play function. I tried to see if it would work in Safe Mode - here is what I'm reporting to MS:

After booting into Safe mode - no network support - I tried loading several disks with music, video and files. No response whatsoever! But I did notice something weird - after loading the cd with the files, the icon started to switch from pointer to pointer with cd, then back to pointer. This would repeat every 8 seconds, ad infinitum. I've got a video of it.

So, it's not a driver issue, but an OS issue.

Does MS know what's going on?

    BTW, this only worked once.
