I have never had a drive setup as readyboost automatically? You have to manually tell Windows to use it for readyboost. I hope that hasn't changed? Actually, I would be very surprised if it did. For that to work it has to be left plugged into the PC it was created on.

Plug it into your Windows 7 PC, go to Properties, then go to the Readyboost tab. If the box is checked for use this drive for readyboost, uncheck it. Then try formatting it again it. Then try it in your Windows 10 PC.

Yes, Alphanumeric I just found that also.
I did a search on "this PC" and windows found two items by Microsoft -
    amd64_microsoft-windows-readyboostdriv....
    in c:\windows\winsxs
    c:\windows\winsxs\manifests

Will do as you suggested in windows 7 and windows 10.
Have NOT deleted the 2 items from my computer.

There is no need to delete those items from your PC. ReadyBoost is a feature built into Windows 7 8 and 10. That drive must have been setup as a readyboost drive either by accident or by somebody else.

Some success. Using that tech Windows 7 pro 64-bit now works with the Sandisk.
    Windows 10 does not work......

I bought an 8GB Sandisk Cruzer recently and it would not recognize it until I assigned it a letter via disk management.

I would think, if this drive had been used for ReadyBoost it would need to be cleaned with Diskpart since boot has some specific settings. Just reformatting does not access this area.

You would need to move any data you want to save off the drive, but if you need the Diskpart commands, let us know.

That "should" be automatic, but I have seen that happen every once in a while. One thing is the newer Sandisk thumb drives show up as fixed disks instead of removable media. I don't know why Sandisk did this or what the ramifications are. On the plus side it makes it easy to use those drives for Windows To Go. Assuming you have one large enough.

I'm not sure what Readyboost does to the drive. You will have to use diskpart though, as disk management won't let you delete the partition on a thumb drive. It's greyed out for me. I would think clean all should do it.
