Help needed on installing new speakers on desktop

Hello there I am running Windows 10 on a desktop.

My existing speakers are about 10 years old and no longer work very well. I have bought new ones - Z150 Logitech. I have plugged them in as shown in the instructions and it is exactly the same as the old ones. When I try to add a new device the system cannot find anything to add. I have tried removing the old speakers on the system and have also restarted the computer. Even though the old speakers are no longer plugged in the system still seems to recognise them. I am not very tech savvy so would be grateful for any help or advice. If it's anything to do with Drivers needing to be upgraded then I really haven't got a clue how to do this.

    Thanks in advance

I've never found an issue by simply plugging a set of speakers in, usually a light green plug into a light green socket on the back of the Desktop, no drivers to install. Can even plug them into the socket on the front of the tower, just the same as plugging in a headset. My main 5-year-old computer is an ASUS M52bc-M32bc from their line of business computers, quite stable.

I'm confused. The Z150 speakers connect to the PC using a 3.5 mm analog plug. The PC shouldn't be able to detect anything through that.

What would be detected is the driver software that provides the outputs. If it's a desktop PC, the drivers would usually be Realtek. You shouldn't need new drivers, if you're replacing analog speakers with a similar pair.

You should be able to go into the Sound control panel, verify that the speakers are configured to Stereo, and test the speakers.

If your PC has multichannel sound output, the correct socket for stereo is the green one.
