No sound through HDMI after Win10 upgrade...

    Hi

I have a SONY VGX-XL301 that I bought in July 2007. It has served me really well and I have used as a home entertainment PC connected directly to my TV via an HDMI cable.

I upgraded to Windows 10 yesterday and everything ran smoothly. The only resolution option that seems to work is 800 x 600, which is annoying, but I can live with that.

However, there is no sound whatsoever. In Sound settings, the playback option has defaulted back to the Digital Audio (S/PDIF) and you can see that the green indicator next to it shows it's recognising sound. The other options available are Headphones and Line but no mention of HDMI.

The details of the video card are:

    Chip Type: NVIDIA
    DAC Type: NVIDIA Corporation
Adapter String: Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
    BIOS Information: G73 Board - c388
    Total available Graphics Memory: 1023MB

Any ideas gratefully received otherwise this box becomes a redundant paperweight.

    Cheers

See if your Video card graphics installer is still in file explorer(or if you're lucky in Device Manager and re-enable it) and re-install it. If it isn't you need to go to NVIDIA's site and download the correct one. Your sound also comes through the card when you use HDMI that's why you have no sound. When Win10 is upgraded or clean installed it always reverts to Windows default graphics(which are very basic and just enough so you can see something...

In my case AMD has a folder under C: drive for example.
