    Conflicting Disk Reporting

Following on from the Thread below 'Is my Disk dead or just very ill?'

I thought until this morning that the problem wa fixed, Oh no, far from it. Again did not boot.
So, having a new SSD drive thought it was time to use it, so unplugged the failed HDD C drive then connected up the SSD and started installing Win 10 and my programs, slowly setting up each one onto the new drive. All seemed okay except that now some of the originally installed drives no longer show under 'This PC' but are still connected to my MB as they have been under the drive that failed. The only drives that now show are the external USB drives the intenal drives do not.

However I checked on 'Drive Management' and all the drives showed, installed 'Partition Magic' and again all drives show, internal and external. So why not under 'This PC'? Is it because they are HDD and not SSD Drives? I would not think so but I do not know about such drives.
As you will see there is something odd with the drive specs and numbers/letters, On one screenshot the new SSD still shows as a new and unused drive, whereas on another screen it shows as used. It also shows as Drive 0 and seemingly as drive 1, one with a blue header and one with a black header.
The SSD Drive is working fine as I am typing this on the PC with it installed.

I hope someone can let me know what is going wrong, I have added screenshots so the problem can be seen.

It is probably because I do not exactly know what I am doing!

    1. Minitool starts listing from Disk 1
    2. Disk Management from Disk 0

These are the same actual disks.

Is there any reason why you're using an old build?

I would also be worried if your Macrium Image files are ONLY saved on an internal disk.
As such you're not protected against e.g.
    theft, ransomware, power outages....

Better to save on external storage.
Some have amore complex imaging routine where some images are saved on internal storage, others on external. But that takes disipline and planning.

started installing Win 10 and my programs, slowly setting up each one onto the new drive.
I hope you have already started using disk imaging and are not waiting until everything's configured before creating your first one.

That's so wrong c is a logical partition so not bootable it's booting it's booting from disk 2 or Mr disk. When doing a clean install it's best to do it with just the one disk or windows will stick boot files somewhere else. Your best bet is to remove all other disks and do a clean install with the one drive

    Hi.
    Thanks for the reply.
The build # is where the install finished today, I tried to install using my W10 iso but that failed as I had upgraded from W7 so no code to enter. I then reinstalled my W7Pro system then updated that using the W10 iso. Not sure if that was the right way but at least it worked!
The MR Backup Disk is an external USB Passport drive.
Smack me as I have not yet installed the MR program but will do next.....
On the 'This PC' screenshot only the C:\ drive is internal the other 4 are all external USB drives. But why Disk Management can detect the other internal drives, as does Partition Magic whereas, 'This PC' does not.
Thanks for the Drive numbering info. Is the info on my drives okay? Or is there anything I need to do or change?

Please excuse me asking the obvious but I am struggling with this being a very non tech savvy OAP

Not sure how to proceed now, I have removed all the drives except for the new SSD. Yesterday I installed onto this my Win7 Pro with its license code, then used my previous Win 10 ISO to update it. I gather that seems to be the wrong way to do it.?

I have just downloaded the latest 22 H2 bootable Win 10 media file to a clean USB flash drive..
How do I now install a new Win 10 OS.?

    1. Start again by installing Win 7Pro.
    2. Use the just downloaded to update to Win 10.
    3. Somewhere I need to sort out the disk structure, Bootable, Logical, Primary, Active?
Should I try to re-install the OS with the drive in its present state or would I be back where I started.
I tried a clean install of Win10 but of course did not have a license number.

Now I have removed all the additional drives, I switched on the PC, after while it came to the screen to select language and keyboard. All I did yesterday has now, I think, gone.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to do a 1,2,3 instruction course that I can follow.

I still want to keep my removed drives available, I will delete any files I no longer need but there are some I do not want to lose.
I will set up Macrium again, once this PC is running properly.
    THANKS for help.

Yesterday I installed onto this my Win7 Pro with its license code, then used my previous Win 10 ISO to update it.

If you did an in place upgrade from an activated (licensed ) win 7 to win10 , then win10 should be activated ( licensed ) if it connected online.

Any subsequent installations of win10 on that motherboard should then automatically activate ( license) when they go online. Because with win10 it is stored online by microsoft so you dont have to keep putting a license key in.

Can you post a screenshot of your current disk management window ?

Unfortunately not. As in a previous post I was advised I should not have tried to install with other drives in place as Boot files could be installed but not on the correct drive.
Today I removed the other drives so see if the PC would still boot, it didn't. It went as far as asking for language and keyboard.

Thanks for your reply. Hopefully I can advise!
I have just the SSD Drive in the PC, I started the PC, hoping it would boot into widows. That did not happen, All the screen showed was the initial install screen where it gives you 3 options, Location, Language and Keyboard layout. 'Next' brings up the repair, dos command etc. I chose repair, that failed and the only option was shut down.

I don't know what media it was referring to, Win 7 or 10

Turned off the PC then removed the SSD and reconnected, tried another boot but the screen then asked for a bootable disk and to press any key.
The wife wants to use it which is not good news,,,,,
I have now put my W7 Pro disk in the player and am trying to install again, with no other drives connected it should now install correctly.
