    SD Card Slot Not Recognized

I have a new 1TB micro SD card that's not recognized in the notebook's SD card slot.

It was recognized two days ago, but now it's not.

I've already tried re-inserting, rebooting, etc...

Presently, I don't have another system to check the card, or another card to check the SD card slot.

I checked Device Manager to reinstall the driver, but I don't see anything at indicates it's the SD card slot.

Does anyone have any recommendations to resolve this issue?

    Regards

Slip the card into the reader
Press the Windows key +X and choose Disk Management. In the lower Pane, is your card reader showing there? Does it say media is present? Does it say the file system is Unallocated Space? Or on the Disk # on the left panel, does it say it is Not Initialized.
If the drive shows up but the files do not, then you will need to use Data Recovery software to recover the files. If you just want to use the card again, Right Click the Unallocated Space and choose to make a new Simple Volume and Format it and give it a drive letter.

    1. Test your SD card in another PC if possible............so you know that your SD card is really working
    2. Go to device manager to Memory Technology Devices under which there is RealteK PCIE Card reader(..or may some other). Select this then click Driver then on the Disable Device, acknowledge the popup, then back at the driver screen click on the Enable Device and its popup.....the SD card now may will work.
    3. Clean the card carefully with a damp cloth.

Disk Management shows no indication of an SD card.

I've ordered a replacement SD card. The new SD card should be delivered by Monday. Then, I'll have a second card to confirm if it's an SD card or SD card slot issue.

Put the SD card into the laptop, open CMD, type "diskpart" (no quotations) and hit enter. Click yes on the prompt that shows up. You should then see

Now type "list disk". You may see several disks show up here, Disk 0, Disk 1, etc.

Do you see a Disk with a capacity that looks correct to your SD? (In this case near 1000GB, might be less)

When the replacement arrives, do give us an update.

It is worth noting some laptops cannot read high capacity SD cards, though, with a high end machine as yours if it was unable to it would be surprising.

Thanks for that suggestion. Diskpart only sees one disk, the SSD.

When I first received the SD card on Monday, it was working, but I did have some initial issues getting the system to recognize the card. I used the SD card to store an image of the system's SSD.

Apparently, you are correct. I gave the slot a couple of shots of electronics compressed gas duster, and the system started to recognize the SD card. So, I cleaned the slot with 99% pure, anhydrous isopropyl alcohol followed by compressed gas and my Meco Eleverde Compressed Air Duster.

The blow job seems to have resolved the issue.

I would've never thought that it was a dirty SD card slot issue because it was working and I left the card in the slot. Then I noticed that it wasn't recognized by the system and after re-inserting numerous times and rebooting, nothing changed. I suspected a bad SD card.

However, I have had this notebook computer since December 2019, and I have never used the SD card slot until this week. I usually keep this notebook clean with regular cleaning, wipe-downs and compressed air, to keep the fans and keyboard from having issues.

Had I just inserted the card and it wasn't recognized, I would've suspected it was either the card or the slot, but the card was in the slot and it was working when I last noticed it. So, I suspected the card failed.
