how to power down usb port

Hi

I whant to buy the canon Lide 400 scanner.
But the scanner gets its power by the usb port so when the pc power up de scanner gets also power on.
How can i make that when the pc power up the usb port of the scanner have no power. End how to manually power up and power down the usb where the scannner is connected to.

A other posibility is to connect the scanner to a external 7 port usb hup with external power plug en put the external power plug in a power plug with a switch

Have a look at Nir Sofer's small, free, portable USBDeview.

It allows commandline options to disable/enable by device name or device serial no.

As a result it should be easy to create simple .BAT files to control whether the scanner is enabled or not.

Did you read the information under the section marked Disable/Enable/Remove Command-Line Options, particularly the information at the end of the section regarding elevation... and the example which follows it? It gives you all the information you need.

For example:

1. Download the appropriate Zip file, unblock it and unzip it.

2. Copy the USBDeview.exe file to C:\Windows (or C:\Windows\System32). This saves you from having to use the full filepath in your BAT files (or from having to amend the system's PATH variable).

3. Copy/paste the example to Notepad and amend it to use the <device name> (or <device serial no.> or <device PID>) of your scanner, e.g.:

USBDeview.exe /RunAsAdmin /disable "Canon LiDE 400"

4. Save the Notepad text as something like disable_scanner.bat (not disable_scanner.bat.txt)

5. Create and save another .BAT file to enable the scanner, e.g.:

USBDeview.exe /RunAsAdmin /enable "Canon LiDE 400"

I don't have a scanner to test which method (<device name>/<device serial no.>/<device PID>) is most effective so you'll have to use trial-and-error.

If you can plug the scanner into it's own power supply and only use the usb port for data transfer,then there should not be any problems.
If not,check with the computer manufacturer as to which usb ports are able to supply sufficient power,if any.
