    Driver CD HP 6L

I have a request ! If anybody here still has a CD with the driver for my HP laserjet 6L and could either send me a copy or the actual disk, I would forever be thankful. I was given this nice printer but no CD. I can access it via Linux Mint but it would be simpler if I could use it from my Win-10 machine. Thanks a mega. J.

    Hp 6l

Thanks Porthos for a swift reply. But . . . . even HP do not carry this driver anymore. I will investigate further as they show three of them but I think that they are for PS font. I need the original one. I will let you know what I find out on these three drivers as offered by HP. Thanks again. J.

I've used HP printers for a number of years, last non-HP was a Lexmark Optra R Laser from early '95. The manual at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpl03394.pdf shows the 6L is only a Parallel Port connection, haven't seen that port of computers lately. Used to be able to get a USB to PP adapter but haven't looked in the last few years. My OJ and LJ printers are Ethernet-connected to my Router and usable on any computer I add the drivers.

They are, in fact, printer drivers.

    20 year old ones.

You might do better with the Microsoft Update Catalog ones. https://www.catalog.update.microsoft...aspx?q=hp%206l They're from 2006. Don't get the ones for IA64, unless you have an Intel Itanium based system. I don't know whether Windows Update would supply them automatically, if you went through a normal printer adding procedure.

You can use a printer that only has an IEEE-1284 (parallel port) interface?

    Porthos, good morn.
I have been on the machine for nigh on 2 hours now and to no avail. None of the 3 drivers on the suggested site would work. What gets me is that Ubuntu or Linux both could honour this fine HP Laserjet. After trying these drivers as you showed me, I did not give up and tried all that I could think of to glorify this devise. When I want to us it, I will slide the file to the other HD on this machine that hold Gnome, and happily print it. I use this runaround as the output is so nice.
Let me thank you again for your attention. JP.

You are so right, Berton, but I got a USB converter devise to parallel port and on Win 8.1, it did fine. Alas, W-10 is out. I guess that W-11 will also be out.
You want to buy a cheap laser printer ? JP.

    Bobkn, hello.
I saved this link and for sure, I will try it in my non-ending quest to revitalise This 6L. I will get back to you. Thanks. JP

    Bobkn, good morn.
I tried your link and again, no joy.
I have a feeling as it suggested W-7, that this is a 32-bit driver and thus no joy on a 64-bit machine.
I have a yearning to load a W-7 OS, just to see. Time will tell but thanks for your attention. J.

I neglected to mention that the Microsoft Update Catalog drivers were in cab file format. If you're unfamiliar, here is how to install from a downloaded cab file. Install CAB file in Windows 10

Good luck with your printer archaeology.

Bobkn, right on. Good sense of humour. You wrote :

It is part of the fun. At the present, I am trying to defeat Secure Boot and TPM to enable Acronis and get a clone of this recent acquisition, an Acer Aspire 5. I succeeded in loading Acronis and as it started up, it said that it could not find a DD. Lying jokers, it is seen in "My computer". Oh well, this is not the first time that I am stumped in this binary world.

Have a nice day and no COVID. JP

I'm glad that you saw the joke in the sense that was intended. If you can make use of an old printer like that, rather than recycling it, you are to be commended.

As regards Acronis True Image, I used to use that. The only trouble I had with it (TI 2021) was a driver that was incompatible with core isolation. I'm not sure what your issue might be.

I have switched to Macrium Reflect Free. It is a) free, b) requires no subscription (as Acronis products will need from now on), and c) it doesn't appear to want to take over your PC the way that "Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office" (what TI has become) does. As all I want are occasional drive images, I'm satisfied with Reflect Free's limitations. (I probably should go with the paid version, just to support them.)

I wonder why the parallel to usb converter doesn't work for w10 but it does for w8. They are both quite similar.
