    BIOS update really needed?

Gigabyte z390UD mobo WITH f7 bios... working on upgrading to Win 11 and thought I may want to look at drivers. On their site, many drivers are updated for 2021, but the BIOS f10 update caught my eye...

    1. Major vulnerabilities updates, customers are strongly encouraged to update to this release at the earliest.
Credits to "Assaf Carlsbad and Itai Liba from SentinelOne"
    2. Introduce capsule BIOS support starting this version.
Customers will NOT be able to reverse to previous BIOS version due to major vulnerabilities concerns.

Something critical going on here I should know?
Should I update my BIOS before or after upgrading to Win 11?

Whilst it doesn't say it's necessary for Win 11 it does say

Major vulnerabilities updates, customers are strongly encouraged to update to this release at the earliest.
    - so after that it's a matter of whether you take that seriously, and your attitude to risk, I suppose.

Occasionally upgrades can fail because of an obsolete version of the BIOS.

And to save anyone else having to search: it's here:

I'm also a gigabyte motherboard too and i update my bios without any problem beside the latest for win11 because i not using it.
If you want to update your bios for win11, do it before installing win11, but as you already know you won't be able to go back to
    older bios.

I've upgraded various Gigabyte motherboards without any issues but use the Gigabyte update utility rather than updating from within Windows

    Agree.
Always update BIOS by launching the update utility from BIOS. Strongly recommend not to use Windows BIOS update.

They fix security vulnerabilities related to CPU that are negligible, like a chance of being hit by the lighting.
What is not negligible is that some CPU patches (F8+) can decrease CPU performance significantly, up to 30%.

New warning shows up on gigabyte bios downloads after a month -

I wouldn't. I downloaded and now my memory produces lots of errors if I try and enable profile 1 to run at the fastest speed my memory is capable of doing. The whole PC becomes unstable.
    Potential performance impact

In testing, Microsoft has seen some performance impact from these mitigations, depending on the configuration of the system and which mitigations are required.

How did the major vulnerabilities BIOS update go?
What method did you use to update it?
I am informed that I will not be able to revert to a previous BIOS version.

You know the funny part of this is. That they tell you on one hand not to update your Bios unless you are having a problem. To hey you better upgrade the bios to new Bios because of the new threats.

Now many times have we seen this about those threats. I have been doing this for 40 yrs. I don't jump through hoops every time the MB Companies tell us this about the new threat.

I have a Gigabyte board Ga-x299x-Aorus Master. It has the 2nd Bios on it when I got it. I'm not having any problems. So why would I update the Bios because it is there. No I don't need any new Bios for those threats or to run windows 11.

These threats come and go and I'm still running without any problems. Plus why would I update to the next Bios for windows 11 to set stuff to the default setting. When I can go in and change a couple settings to run windows 11.

I'm not telling you to not update the Bios. That is up to each person on what to do with their Motherboard. Just be careful when you are doing as they say it is a risk when updating your Bios.

As I always say: "If it isn't broke don't fix it"
