Win 10 not recognizing an external usb connected HDD

I have an external 1TB HDD connected by usb to my Win 10 laptop. Although Windows explorer shows it's drive letter OK, it just says "Location not available" when I try to access it. Any other HDD I plug in works OK, so it is specific to this drive.

Using AOMEI partition assistant everything looks OK. I have re-formatted it several times but still same problem. Hard drive test programs can read and write to it OK so I'm guessing it is a windows problem. I have no trouble with any other drives via USB.

Any suggestions would be very welcome. The drive is a WD BLUE 1TB WD10JPVX

    Hello @Norfolkman22,

I have noticed that you have NOT had ANY replies, so I thought that I would try and help.

[1] When this happens, are there ANY Yellow Triangles in Device Manager?
[2] Have you looked on the External HDD Manufacturers Website for ANY Updated Drivers?
[3] Does the same problem occur if you plug the External HDD into another Computer?

    I hope this helps.

    Man thanks for the reply.
I managed to get it working OK eventually. Not quite sure what it was!
