USB Portable Diskette Drive - Needs Device Driver

    Hello Forum,

I just purchased a USB Diskette Drive that apparently isn't PnP. I attempted to download a device driver from the web, but my ESET Internet Security cleaned the download.

I see a TEAC USB Floppy in Device Manager, Universal Serial Bus controllers, but I don't see the drive in File Explorer.

With the drive connected, it makes a constant noise as if it's seeking.

I suspect it needs a better device driver.

    Is there a solution?

    Regards

I also it in Device Manager, Floppy disk drives.

I suspect a mechanically defective unit.

    I suspect you are correct.

I have a Dynex DX-EF101, and when it's connected it doesn't make that surging noise.

At first, I thought I had the same problem with the Dynex, because I didn't see it in File Explorer under This PC. However, when I click on This PC, it shows up under Devices and drives. When I click on Floppy Disk Drive (A:), it then appears under the This PC column. The TEAC drive does the same, but with the constant surging noise.

So, it appears to be a bad USB Floppy drive.

Why is it that it doesn't appear under This PC in File Explorer when it's first connected?

Probably the controller never gets a "Ready" message, preventing Explorer trying to mount a "Physically" non responsive device.

But, the Dynex USB floppy behaves the same, and it's not defective. I would think that the PnP A: drive would appear under This PC as soon as it connected, and the device drivers load.

This is related on how a controller would react to a defective / not responding "material" as electronic component relies on the fact that "everything works" results "in an not working environment" are nearly unpredictable.

Is this a Desktop Computer or a Laptop?
Your pictures show the drivers are installed and working correctly.
Does the devices come with it's own Power Adapter or a Y USB Cable (ie) one part boosts the power and the other is for the signal
This may be happening because the USB port is not providing enough power.
If a desktop, be sure you are plugging in the USB cable to the Back USB port, not the front or though a Hub or USB Extender. That would diminish the power.

The computer is a 2019 HP Spectre notebook. The drive is a new USB Portable Diskette Drive that connects directly to the computer's USB port with the drive's single, non-detachable type-A USB cable. The drive is rated for 5V, 500mA, and is drawing 5V, 180mA when it continously energizes for two seconds on and 1 second off, with and without a diskette.

It's getting plenty of power from the computer. I've got another disk drive that works fine.

It's a defective drive, and it's going back to the seller.

I just bought the same model unit via Amazon. The instruction manual clearly states that it is supposed to come with a CD-ROM containing the device drivers. For what it is worth, my package didn't include the CD-ROM either. I contacted the wholesaler that shipped it, I will see if anything comes of it.

Are you having problems with the drive? I couldn't resolve my problem drive and I returned it to the seller.
