    SD-Card´s corrupted

Since last year I have been reporting problems with the SD card that is inserted into the PC's internal slot.Sometimes the card was formatted as RAW. I bought 3 more different Cards and the situation happened from time to time, without me having an explanation. 1 - 64Gb and 3 - 128Gb.I have been using a new Application for 15 days, it is installed on Disk C: and I defined a folder on Disk D: (SD-Card) as working directory.Almost every time I exited the Program, I found that the SD Card was corrupt and I had to use CHKDSK to repair it. Errors reported by CHKDSK referred to that application's folder. Sometimes, after repairing, I lost access to my work and had to start from copies I had.3 days ago I decided to delete in Windows Defender the application folder on Disk D: .To my surprise, there was no corruption on Disk D:Sounds to me like Windows Defender is the culprit.Since I started using Windows 10 when it was introduced, I've lost 1TB of an External Disk, and from time to time the Disks (various and different) show some hesitation in being readily recognized by the system, I notice that they try several times to read the Disc information.Since it seems to me that Windows Defender is the culprit, I'd like to hear your wise opinion on how to limit Windows Defender to Basic functions instead of permanently monitoring the running of applications.I would like to know your wise opinion if it is advisable to completely disable Windows Defender, I can't run the risk of losing information stored on disks, I use the PC professionally, not as a toy.Thanks.

As this is not a common experience, perhaps it's nothing to do with Defender.

    You say
.I have been using a new Application for 15 days, it is installed on Disk C: and I defined a folder on Disk D: (SD-Card) as working directory. Almost every time I exited the Program, I found that the SD Card was corrupt and I had to use CHKDSK to repair it.
Try not using the SD card in that way- put the folder on an internal drive. See if your problem disappears.

Should you wish to suppress Defender, rather than effectively hacking the O/S and trying to remove it (then expect it to be reinstated on any major upgrade), try installing a 3rd party AV. Many of Defender's features will then not be active.

    Hello dalchina.
    Thank you.
It has been a very long "hunt" arround corrupted Drives.
I am quite certain Windows Defender is not working very with external Drives. It is performing well , no issues at all, on Drive C:, that is my opinion and it might be wrong.
Do you know if it is possible to configure Windows Defender so hat it does not access external Drives at all?

From the tenforums tutorials section (which you're free to browse and search) I found
Add or Remove Microsoft Defender Antivirus Exclusions in Windows 10
    searching thus:
    defender exclusion tutorial site:tenforums.com

    Similarly:
Exclude external drive from Defender Virus Scan

    Thank you dalchina.
I was missing how to exclude a Drive, in Defender Menus only apear Folders. The second Link did the trick.
And pobably I will disable the whole Defender.

Don't leave yourself without protection. Rather than hacking the O/S to try to kill it (there are extensive threads about disabling Defender) why not just install a 3rd party AV- Avast behaves well for me. (I've found a couple of times Defender starts gobbling CPU resources without good reason).

Yes, all Anti-Virus are consuming very much resources, all the time scaning files and folders around.
I have the feeling there is a "Timing" problem and a sort of "competition" to the "Read/Write" jobs of OS so at the end there is this corruption on slow Device. That is a guess.
I can not explain the corruption on external HDD/SD-CArd, there must be other problem than a simple Hardware failure.
I will keep the Windows Firewall and disable the Defender.
    Thank you again.
