was hoping this would fix the scrolling fault with windows programs but can not install this update
uninstalled the driver before trying to install this but windows came up and said the best driver already installed
the one windows installed was back to version 10
version 15 was on before i uninstalled it
tried installing it manually and windows would not let it
now managed to get version 15 reinstalled

I'm still unable to install latest Synaptics Touchpad Driver for Windows 10
I have a Acer Aspire 7738G laptop which I upgraded from Win7 to Win10, the synaptics driver was still active after upgrade but Win10 does not allow to disable or update the driver.

If i delete the Synaptics driver, Win10 always installs a PS/2-compatible mouse driver after reboot.
I'm currently using Windows 10 Home (version 1511 build 10586.3)

    Any help welcome, thanks.

I've had exactly the same issue on my Samsung Q330 laptop, with the initial W7>W10 upgrade, and again with the W10-1511 upgrade.

I assume you've downloaded and are using the latest Synaptics 19.0.19.1 driver update?

If so, what you need to do is this...

    1. Go into Device Manager, select Mouse and click update drivers, then select the following.
      1. Browse My Computer
      2. Let me pick from a list
      3. Have disk button
      4. select the folder with the new Synaptics drivers (in my case it was ..\WinWDF\x86)
      5. select synSmbDrv.inf, and install
      6. Reboot, then you will find the additional touchpad options from <WinKey+I> Mouse

    it works now, thanks
one remark, i had to select ..\WinWDF\x64 instead of ..\WinWDF\x86
for ..\WinWDF\x86 i got message no drivers available in this directory

after install and reboot i'm still not able to disable the touchpad, i would like to disable when i'm using an external usb mouse.

You should find this option on the Synaptics Touchpad settings options...

    After updating from b. 10240 to 10586.3 ( W 10 x64), Windows installed an older version of Synaptics 19.0.15.2, before I had 19.0.19.1.
Also now, in Device Manager, it's listed under PS/2 Port touchpad, before it was SmBus.
Windows Update does no longer provide 19.0.19.1 driver, Why??
What are the recommended steps to get installed manually the latest Synaptics driver because with the currently installed driver, mouse scrolling does not work for Start menu - All apps, with 19.0.19.1 it used to work.
Also what is the name of the x64 .inf to use for update synSmbDrv.inf or SynPD.inf??
    Thank you.
