    How safe is this...Hdmi issue.

Hi all, I currently have a tv that seems to have voltage along the hdmi line (it literally sparks massivly when I go to plug a hdmi in.) I Have a Geforce 970... how safe would it be to plug it into this tv? Thinking of using it as a second monitor, mostly to play games on that I'd use a controller for. I haven't done it yet because I do not have the cash to replace my hardware if it fries. SHould I be worried? I currently have my ps3 plugged into the tv and nothing has happened.. yet. This is not exactly windows 10 related I know, but I am wondering about this.

I think you have answered your own question. Though the "sparkles" doesn't have to be power related, in fact it's more likely a data transmission error of some kind. I am assuming you have switched out cables (more than one).

HDMI can provide 55mA over pin 18 so it's possible the port on your TV is bad - is it the only one? If you really do have a power issue I wouldn't plug anything in to it, frankly, but what is it that makes you think it is power? Sparkles doesn't always mean power interference as I mentioned.

You do know I mean sparks as in electrical sparks between the metal and the tv right? Anyway, at one time our cable was going funny, my tv was plugged into it, and apparently according to tests the guy did, there was excessive voltage on my hdmi line coming out of the tv, it bascally fried the cable junction box outside on the side of our building. This is why I am worried based on what he said.

For comparason my living room tv hdmi ports do not spark like this. It sparks like in this video just a bit bigger: HDMI cable + MacBook Pro = SPARKS - YouTube

I'd want to know what was causing that, for sure., for all sorts of reasons, including your safety.

Yeah its the metal housing where you push the connector into it, that sparks. I guess I will play it safe, I cannot afford to replace my 970 if it blows so.. yeah.

No, I didn't know that, because it would never occur to me that someone would actually ask if it was safe to plug a cable in between a PC and a TV that threw off sparks are you kidding here?

What kind of responses are you expecting to get online? "Oh yeah, my TV sparks all the time, once I even saw some smoke, you'll be fine"??
