We know that this is a bug because it is widespread.
I have found it months ago. Report it in windows feedback.
And don't make workarounds because the only thing that is messed up is the icon from usb, and card readers.

Read an article with a suggestion to delete the cache...it worked! Looked in the ProgramData directory...found two cache folders dated 11/6/19 and deleted them. Reinstalled my printer and back to normal. Hopefully it stays that way...

Update 11/11/19 5:31 PM EST: It turns out that this issue is happening when the feature to download metadata and custom icons for installed devices is enabled in the "Device installation settings".
    Device installation settings
    Device installation settings

Microsoft must have recently made a server change on their end that replaced the icon that is downloaded for USB drives.

If you like the old icon, unfortunately once the new icon is downloaded due to the above setting, disabling the setting will not change the icon back.

Seriously Senpai told us on Twitter that you may be able to fix this by going into the %PROGRAMDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataCache\dmrccache folder and then into the most recently modified language folder.

Then sort those folders by date to find the one for your metadata cache for the device that recently changed and delete that particular folder.

You can determine the folder by going into it and seeing if the icon matches the one that you are now seeing. Then delete that folder.

It helps with the USB icon, but also breaks all other device icons stored under that `...\dmrccache` folder. Reinstalling the devices sometimes helps and sometimes doesn't. Now I can't restore my printer icon.

It doesn't solve the problem with that weird "Device", "Device", "Device" list at the bottom of "Devices and Printers" for each USB Hub connected to the computer. And now the icons are blank.

It is more than just a new icon, since this bug also suppresses the ability to change icons through `autorun.inf`.

In my case, there were six folders with long extension names under en-us I deleted the two dated 11/6/19 and left the rest intact. Now that it downloaded new metadata info...all the old files are gone. USB drives displaying weird icons (i believe in usb 3.0 ports only)-annotation-2019-11-12-005707.jpg

However, my icons in Devices and Printers are all correct now

@Bobmitch this doesn't affect only the icons. The item descriptions and names also get affected. If you disable the feature, you will keep the wrong descriptions forever, even when MS fixes the server and pushes the right information to the user.

    Quick jump in...

Does anyone have "View Hidden Items" checked in File Explorer?
    If so please uncheck it.

Has 1909 been pushed to you?

    Please post back. Thanks.
