How do I get USB 3.0 DVD drive to show up in boot menu?

How do I get USB 3.0 DVD drive to show up in boot menu of refurbished OptiPlex 990 with bios A24? Once Windows 1909 is started, the DVD drive works, except I can't boot from it.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Steve

Make sure that you have Legacy USB enabled in the bios, it shows up enabled in the bios boot devices listing, you may also have to use a powered hub with the device.

    Thanks, bro67

I have a powered 3.0 hub, which works fine for high-speed backups, but the USB 3.0 DVD only shows up in the bios if I plug into a USB 2.0 port.

    That would be correct.

To add, my USB CD/DVD/Optical drives won't work with USB 3 ports until the OS loads the USB 3 drivers. The BIOS has built-in USB 2 support hence the Legacy part. Some very new machines may have the needed support for USB 3 or the even newer C port [haven't had to deal with that yet].

I just pull out a USB 2.0 cable to connect my DVD drive if needed or use the Y cable and off we go.
