    Lenovo R400 - No cursor/Touchpad not working??

My old laptop was working fine recently, until now. Basically, unless I use a USB mouse, I can't navigate on my laptop. There's basically no cursor! I have no idea why? I tried installing some things, but to no avail. And I can't even see any R400 Windows 10 drivers. The ones I tried, were for other operating systems. Any advice?

Probably Windows Update replaced the touchpad drivers with newer but not 100% compatible. First see in Programs and Features if there is any "Synaptics touchpad" or similar and uninstall it. Restart the computer for the change to take effect. If this doesn't work, go to Device Manager, Mice and other pointing devices and remove the touchpad. Restart for the changes to take effect.

PS: Also check if there is a key combination (Fn+??) to enable/disable the touchpad. Try that as well.

I did a system restore, but still the same. I then uninstalled the touchpad driver, and Windows downloaded and reinstalled it. Along with a big Windows feature update. Still not working! It's not even listed under device manager, or Windows settings. Only showing in the Programs and Features list. Pretty strange! Unless it's damaged or broken somehow. It's installed, but not showing anywhere apart from that.

If I try connecting to it via the control panel under 'Mouse', it says 'Unable to connect to Synaptics Pointing Device Driver'... No idea what's going on. Unless like I said, it is no longer working. A fault with the laptop itself.

No need to worry now. Put my fist through the screen. :)

Hello! This is a typical case where the working driver is older than the generic Microsoft driver. Windows Update tries to install newer driver and makes your touchpad not working. The remedy is to download the Show/Hide tool from here: http://download.microsoft.com/downlo...owhide.diagcab Then disconnect from the internet (switch off WI-FI or unplug the network cable). Now remove once again the Touchpad software and restart. This should make the touchpad work again. Now run the Show/Hide tool and connect to the internet. Let it identify all available updates and it will show you a list. Find in the list any driver updates you want to hide (disable) and check their boxes. Click Next to proceed. Once done these updates will never be installed again. However if there are any newer updates for the touchpad with a newer build of Windows 10 (rare) you will have to repeat the process to hide these also. For this to work you have to be offline to have the time to run the tool before Windows Update replaces the drivers again. Once ready to run the tool, you go online so it can find the available updates. If an update is already installed the tool cannot identify and hide it, so you have to hide it before it gets installed. I hope that helps.
