Bring back the Windows 8 Start Screen?
-
Start8 by stardock
not a big fan of the expandable folders and alphabetize apps.. in 5 the folders are expanded to an app..
and the webpage style pop-ups for pc setting and such are foolish and more designed so you can't change anything..
My biggest complaint is the way windows do not drag and move without having to try three times to grab it..
all others are like clickdrag move done.. win10 is click click click slow slide over..
Well now they have Start10

I think there's a software called istart8 or something that makes it work, not free though
dunno if it's good or not
Thanks, but I can only locate something named Start8 and that is sadly just yet another tool to bring a Windows 7-style start menu to Windows 8.

I sent a request to Stardock which seems to be major player in this market:
Would you consider a utility for Windows 10 to "Bring back the Windows 8 Start Screen"?
After all the hysteria about the "missing" start menu of Windows 8 has vanished with the release of Windows 10, there seems to be a rising demand for a Windows 8 Start Screen for Windows 10.

I find the W10 Start Screen quite similar to the W8 one and a lot more versatile. I'm okay with it.

The Start Screen in Windows 8.1 is a masterpiece with its horisontal scroll and simplistic grouping.
The Start Screen in Windows 10 is a mess with the mix of a Windows 7 style Start Menu and the vertical scroll of the tiles.
Would there be any way to bring the Windows 8 Start Screen to Windows 10 as in the early builds?
I don't need any fancy additional features, just the Windows 8 Start Screen style and behaviour.
It is currently not possible to change the Windows 10 start menu to the old Windows 8.1 start screen, but you can hope either Microsoft improves the current start screen or a 3th-party developer (I guess Stardock would be into that) makes something in the same way as Stardocks Start8 but the other way around. Also, you can look for some Windows 8 Start Screens for Windows 7 as they should also work. like this one. But those lack in functionality and often stability. Report back if you find a solution!
