I have a clean install of Windows 10, and my system is playing the Windows 7 startup sound??? I have searched all of my hard drives and cannot find said wave. I have deduced that you cannot change the startup sound in the control panel, and even after locating the Windows Startup Wave ... it is just a "click sound" less than a second in length. I had performed the registry edit to enable the startup sound ... that part worked ... but I'm at a real loss to find the actual sound itself. Starting to think it is "embedded" somehow, or it's not a wave file. Any thoughts?
Same for me, there is this program that can do it for you called "Startup Sound Changer", but people are saying it's unsafe. I just want to play the PS1 startup sound when my computer boots up, but it makes the Windows 7 startup sound, with no way to change it. When you go to Control Panel>Appearance and Personalization>Personalization and you click Sounds, there is no option to change the startup, unlock, or shutdown sound. They simply do not appear. They are, however, Logon, Logoff, and Unlock sounds that appear in the drop-down menu. With the right permissions you might be able to rename whatever wav to "Windows Startup" and replace that file in the destination, you can change the startup sound that way.

I am the administrator but I do not have these permissions, is there a way to change those?

I found the Windows Startup wave. You are correct, it can't be changed without digging a little deeper, which I haven't done yet. Curiously, the wave itself is just a "click" sound, it is not the Windows 7 theme, so I didn't even really go any further in trying to change it.

I'm Just Guessing What if you change the registry to make the windows startup or shutdown sound apply to your own sound and then delete the windows vista/7 sound and change the registry for the vista/7 to your sound

the windows startup sound will ONLY play if you have quick startup disabled.
Yes, this is the key! Took me forever to figure out that I had to disable that option. Found it on these guides, as well as how to use a custom .wav file:
