I just got off work, I'm glad you found a solution that works for you, and doesn't contrast with your desktop theme. I know, from theming, how hard that can be.

I just create a Desktop toolbar, that way I can access anything on my desktop from the Taskbar.
What happened to using the bar on the FAR right of the taskbar to get to the Desktop? OR maybe u don't know about it.
Go to the FAR right end of the taskbar and clk. -- other side of the date/time
Clk again and the windows reappear.

I find a nice software solution from the box, it called Actual Multiple Monitors . After installation it immediately puts a recycle bin on the taskbar. It works with all versions of Windows how i know. Here is how it looks in my Windows 7. I think that this utility will be helpful for everybody.

    @ Cliff S
This is no solution to your problem
Just right click your mouse, on the file you want to delete and click delete, or press delete button on your keyboard.
You actually do not even need a Recycle bin icon, Just press Shift + Delete and your item is deleted permanently.

Much faster than dragging items to an icon
