No picture on screen after waking computer up after AU update

    Hello,

After installing the Windows 10 AU update on my HP Envy m6 Sleekbook, I've noticed that upon waking my computer up, there is no background picture displayed:

The picture shows up if I started typing and the password prompt screen shows up, but then disappears again if I back out of that.

Obviously more of a cosmetic problem and not a major hindrance...but I'd still like it fixed.

Same here. Check in your Event Log and see if you have the error I see when this happens:

Activation of application Microsoft.LockApp_cw5n1h2txyewy!WindowsDefaultLockScreen failed with error: The app didn't start. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

Hello hm8, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you turned on Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen, then double check to make sure that you have Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing checked in your visual effects settings to prevent the lock screen background not displaying properly.

alexncfc: I'm not immediately seeing that error in the Event Log, but I am not so familial with the app. Exactly where should I be seeing it?

Brink: The option is indeed checked

    hm8,

If you haven't already, you might see if changing your lock screen background may toggle it to show properly again.

    hm8,

In Event Viewer, goto the Windows Logs > Application log. Look for any entries with red and white exclamation points as icons and the source reading "Apps". I get Lock Screen errors in this list consistently.

There are many errors listed under Application Logs, but I'm not seeing any "Lock Screen errors". I do see erros like the one below that seem to correspond with when I am waking the computer up (although I haven't timed it explicitly yet).

Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Photos_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error: The operation was canceled by the user. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.

As instructed in a different forum, I did a clean boot on my laptop (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135), which got rid of the issue. Returning to a normal boot brought the issue back.

I'm not sure where to go from here, and I haven't received a response back on the other forum yet, so I am looking for help here.

    hm8,

For now, it'll just be a matter of troubleshooting with a clean boot to see if it may reveal what is causing the issue.
