OK, it's agreed that we can either suffer slow window transitions or check the box of "Animate windows when minimizing or maximizing", and of course if the setting "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen" is off all we get is a color background with the user ID picture in a small circle. If it works as Microsoft apparently currently intends. And for 2.5 of the last 3 months that was almost acceptable. After all, at least I no longer had to look at that silly "rays of light through 4 windows" blue mess that was the only sign-in screen for so long. Then about 2 weeks ago apparently Microsoft took a poke at fixing something in the lock screen / sign-on screen arena. After an update I found my personally selected / created windows background picture was now my lock screen / sign-on screen background also. The "Personalize / Lock screen settings still showed "Windows spotlight". The only way to get a different Lock screen background now is to select "Picture" and browse to a picture file. Changing that selection back to "Windows spotlight" still leaves me with the last selected picture. (Even if cold booted between each step). Also, selecting "slide show" also leaves me at whatever picture was used last. While there were some quirks in Windows 10 that I found annoying, at least the settings I could access seemed to for the most part do what they were labeled. I am expecting an email any day now from Microsoft saying that all can be made as good as before the anniversary update and keep all the new features if I sign up for a "monthly cloud clinic" or some such for "only $x.xx' (LOL)
Somehow I new a free OS upgrade was too good to be true. (System Info reports Version 10.0.14393 Build 14393)
I actually found relief most lately by relinquishing control back to Windows, by letting it choose the best settings, as was the original selection that started this whole mess for me. Maybe their "fix" snuck that functionality back in for us?

Their Anniversary update also re-enabled "fast boot" which brings on its other slew of problems. On my rig if I DISABLE fast boot it shaves between 2-3 seconds off the boot time and re-enables the Windows Start sound. Why is MS so keen on changing these settings everytime an update drops? I still miss my logon sound

I can confirm that having Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing unchecked in Visual Effects settings will have the lock screen background not show properly when "Show lock screen on sign-in screen" is turned on.

Have just made this change on my computer. I will be interested to see if the "bug" has been fixed.

Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen

Hello, first post. I'm on build 14971 and experiencing some weird behaviour.
When I play with the "Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen" setting:
Lock screen background image does not appear (Anniversary Update)-setting.jpg
even though it shouldn't affect the lock screen (only the sign in screen) I get this when it's ON:
Lock screen background image does not appear (Anniversary Update)-lock-screen-.jpg

    and this when it's OFF:
Lock screen background image does not appear (Anniversary Update)-lock-screen-off.jpg

But in any case the sign in screen (which i can't take a screenshot of) is always a solid accent color!
any ideas? i want the windows spotlight picture to appear in both lock on and sign in screen.

    Thank you!

Hello @PIXIP, and welcome to Ten Forums. :)

If you turn on Show lock screen background picture on the sign-in screen, then you will need to make sure that you have Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing checked in your visual effects settings to prevent the lock screen background not displaying properly.

Hey Guys found a solution on another forum.

    Most unintuitive indeed.
This worked for me and I hope will work for others experiencing this annoyance.
This also worked, Due to previously setting computer for Best Performance is what broke the Lock screen, Ticking this one Box fixes that problem while leaving your other settings for Best Performance.

If you are using Citrix receiver, it WILL turn off "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing". Other apps may also do the same thing.

I disabled all items in the "Task Manager" startup tab. Lockscreen worked perfectly and shows the spotlight wallpaper. I then added them back in, one at a time and did a logout/login. The setting was still on until... I found my lock screen killer. I use a Citrix application to logon to my work related VDI. There are 2 Citrix services that were starting at logon. They both will kill the lock screen background by disabling "Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing". Citrix says they are incompatible. To further prove the theory, I enabled everything else but the Citrix services and reset the animation setting, I can login/logout and reboot and the lock screen always shows the Spotlight picture.

Long story short, it may not be Windows 10 that is the culprit. You may have an app that is disabling that setting.

Good solution - Citrix Receiver was the Culprit for me.

I found this 14 hours after it was posted, and it was the fix for me. Thanks RandyO!

Does anyone know if TightVNC also does this? And, do you mean that Citrix receiver does it silently, in other words, even if you have it checked, Citrix receiver will still uncheck it silently while it's in use?
