    Can't tile executables

    Hello Woops...

Executable files you can pin to the startmenu! Easy. But when you have a shortcut to a file that you use a lot and that you want to be able to open with one mouseclick in the startmenu, Tile a File is e good option.
Another app, that is somewhere mentined on this forum is Better Startmenu. Looks great, but is not working! I yust got back my money from Microsoft.

    Greetings,
    Hans

This APP (Better StartMenu) is not working at all!
When downloading the app (try out version) nothing is happening!
The payed version (2,99) is not working to!
The help app that you need to install gives a warning by Microsoft. Unknown software and supplier! Do not install!

I just got a refund from Microsoft.

Please let me know when it is working without problems.

    Greetings,
    Hans

    Hi,

I just published an app to create tiles on Windows 10 Start Menu. It's called "Better StartMenu". You can try it for free.

Hmm.. Gonna steer clear of that app. TileCreator does the same thing for free, anyways.

Open the 'ApprovedApps.config' file, type this, for example:

then Shift-Right Click on a folder and 'Copy as Path':

... and paste, but remove the quotation marks, and Save:

    Pick your image!

Thank you for your anwser, it does work! I have a second question though.
When I pin a folder from my library (for exemple : Library > Music and not the "classical" music folder), it doesn't work.

I mean, it does but the tile is linked to the original folder. Is there a solution for that specific problem? Microsoft allows us to pin one of these folders in the start menu, but when I try doing it manually it doesn't work at all...

(The screen shows that it is possible but only with that image size)

    Thanks again!

Explain how to make a tile that opens an excel sheet, or one that opens an URL..
What is an Approved App Key? I do not understand.
Where to put the filename of URL?

First you need to install Dropbox - TileCreatorProxy.exe as an administrator. This will create a folder called Tilecreator on your C drive and in that folder is a file called ApprovedApps.config. You need to open ApprovedApps.config with notepad and add whatever programs/files/urls you want to assign tiles to in the format 'key : path'. For example, if I want to add iTunes I'd add:

    Itunes:C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe

In that example the red text 'Itunes' is the key and the green text is the path.

If I want to add a URL I'd add:

    Tenforum:https://www.tenforums.com/

Where once again 'Tenforum' is the key and "www.tenforums.com" is the path.

If I wanted to add an excel file I'd add:

    Budget:C:\Users\Joe\Documents\File1.xlsx

    etc etc etc

This is how the file would look with those three entries:

Now I save that file and open Tilecreator, and if I wanted to create a tile for iTunes it would look like this:

You just enter a name (which is optional), a key which in this case is Itunes and an image. If I wanted to open the excel document I linked to in the ApprovedApps.config file I'd just put 'Budget' in the key section or if I wanted to open the URL I linked to in that file I'd just put 'Tenforum' in instead.

    Edit:

Unfortunately do to a limitation of Windows Store apps these Tile programs do need to pop open first when you click on a tile. However when your finished making your tiles you can open Tilecreator and move it with your mouse behind your taskbar and you'll never notice it's there. Here's a video of my screen and except for the Tilecreator icon appearing on the taskbar for a split second you'd never know it was there:

So I downloaded the trail version of you app and it let me place only 2 tiles (as intended) but when I decided to purchase it I still don't have the ability to place more than 2 tiles.
Please respond with a fix asap or I will have to report the app to Microsoft and request a refund. Thanks.
