The icons on the top right are for the three external drives Samsung (D), LG BD RW (E), Sandisk (F). If I copy the xml & png files for them and try to cntl V into "This PC" absolutely nothing happens - not even a warning to nick off, and if I try to drag them there I get a little no entry icon following the cursor (and this was pretty much expected).

So I got those miserable little icons there by sending shortcuts for the drives to the desktop, renaming and just changing the normal icon to the ones I made.

As near as I can tell I can only get larger icons in the start menu by copying the xml &png, so if I can't paste them there then perhaps I'm stuck with the tiny ones?

I tried several ways and nothing worked.
    Maybe @Hopachi knows a way.
Need to wait until he shows up again.
The problem is these are drive and not programs, files, or folder, where you can put the XML and PNG next to them. I tried creating a shortcut(was able to customize the shortcut icon) and placing the shortcut icon in a folder with the tile pack, but whenever pind to start, it just used the icon and not the tile pack.

I even tried placing the folder containing shortcut, XML, and PNG directly in:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    and
    C:\Users\Cliff S\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

    But neither worked.
    Nope.
No way to paste something in This PC; that's not a folder.

Disk drives don't work with the XML method.
    Too bad.

It seems that WinTiler app is able to pin custom disk drives.

But the custom tiles require permission to open with someting called Tiler (the app?)... I still didn't got that part going.
This was all pretty good with the trial the app the full version is about 1euro in the Store.

    Guys,
I know this post is very old, but that's actually the best results I found online till now...

I have created a Skype-call shortcut for my dear mom so she can call me in 1 press of the icon on the yoga laptop I bought her.
I want it to have an ICO of my face to make it easier for her (old and with a begining of dementia).

I tried the XML + PNG method, but it didn't work.

What should I do? any ideas?

    Thanks in advnce

I created an .ico image some years ago that would work but I don't recall which image editing program I used. The current Paint/MSPaint on Win10 and Win11 doesn't allow the .ico format, maybe something like GIMP or IrFanView will. Anyway. after creating the file I would put a shortcut on the desktop to a program then in Properties of it to change the icon as desired. Then I would Pin that shortcut to the Taskbar. It works for opening a program but not for a URL but using the browser with the home page set as desired or a different program should.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your answer.
for a specific .exe I already found a way to do it in this thread.
However, since I have many URLs I need to create shortcuts too (Not all are Internet Browser based), I need a solution that will work with individual URL shortcuts (for Skype automatic calls, Music playlists etc.)

I'd appreciate any solutions, I will try them all.

    Have a great week,
    A.G.
