    SCR missing support files

Hi everybody. I have a screensaver from way back (Win 98 days) that I really like and am trying to run in Windows 10. It is a screensaver based on the First Person Shooter game called Unreal and even includes sound. I have the SCR file and it does seem to install but when I test or preview it, a dialogue box pops up telling me that certain support files are missing. I have no idea which files they might be. I had the same problem in Windows 7. Anyone want to tackle this problem?

    Thanks in advance

Is it possible that the screensaver is Flash based? Since Adobe Flash is now no longer supported it's possible that this could be the cause of the cause of the problem. Some of my favorite screensavers don't work any longer due to this as well.

    Canasia,

I agree with the first reply even though I might express things differently.

Even though your old screensaver created that file as an .scr file it might well incorporate calls to external references that no longer exist.
    - This might be, as suggested, calls to Flash.
    - It might be as simple as calls to some configuration file that could, if you only knew how, be recreated in Windows 10.
Only the screensaver developer is likely to know the answer.

It's possible that this thread might develop into something that might give you a steer - Windows 98 Theme Solved - TenForums - but I cannot be sure.

I'm sorry but I do not expect that anybody else will be able to solve your problem.

    All the best,
    Denis

    Oh, welcome to TenForums.
It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.

Looks like so far, my only options are to try installing Win98 into a virtual machine to get the missing files or play the game to the point where the screensaver was developed and make a new screensaver. Either option sounds really drastic to me. And its no guarantee that will even work.

Just my personal opinion, but I wouldn't put much effort in getting a screensaver to work. Microsoft is planning to eliminate screensavers altogether, although I cannot say how soon that might happen.
