Desktop Icons Moving After Computer Wakes or Monitor is Turned Back on

    Hi all,

    Problem:
Desktop Icons move back to the left (default) side of the screen after customizing. this happens when the the computer is put into sleep mode and is woken up or when the monitor is turned off and turned back on. I upgraded to windows 10 Pro 64bit from windows 7 ultimate 64bit. This problem never happened with windows 7.

-Automatic Sleep mode is turned off - when I manually put computer to sleep mode and wake it up the icons are rearranged

-Automatic turn off monitor has been deactivated - when shut off my monitor but keep my computer on and then turn back on the monitor the icons have rearranged

    -I have small icons setting

-Auto align icons has been deactivated

-allow themes to change icons has also been deactivated

    My Computer:
    LG 34UM65 - 21x9 - 2560x1080p resolution
    AMD 9590
    Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
    Gigabyte HD7970ghz
    Corsair Platinum Ram
    WD HDD
Samsung 850Pro - Windows 10 is installed on the SSD
My Drivers are all up to date. and Motherboard Bios has just been updated to 2201

If anyone is reading this please help

    regards,

I started seeing this occasionally too. Not sure of a solution.

I tried the right click on the desktop, view, and unchecked Align Icons to Grid. So far, after a sleep and a restart, icons remain where I left them.

Hi all, just registered to confirm that I too began experiencing this issue a few days ago. I'd been having other issues so I only just came to discover that this one existed on its own, unrelated.

This behavior started once I installed the Win 10 Fall update, and I can confirm it did indeed go away when I did the same as PJLLB - rightclick on desktop, and UNcheck "Align Icons to Grid."

I'll also note that my icons only seemed to move around after I launched a full-screen program and then exited back to desktop - or let my display go to sleep and then wake up, as in Chris25's experience.

    Hope this helps some others!

Google "Monitor Detect Killer device" this cheap solution worked perfectly for my gaming PC with extended desktops.
Depending on your monitors and computer, there may not be a solution at all for this. I had tried editing the edid and registry also 3rd party software with no luck. With this device you can switch off and on your screens all day long with no issues at all. It also works great with the sleep settings and your desktop icons won't get rearranged any more. Try your video card's features first but some cards are limited when it comes to handshake with extended desktops.
