Did you remove Classic Shell by uninstalling it or some other way? If you uninstall and reboot it should restore Windows to its default menu.
Also, what build are you on? From what I've heard, 10056 has start button issues on its own.

That is exactly what I have in mind. 10056 with Classic Shell installed have issues already. I am not surprised about this problem after uninstalling CS.

I am on build 10056 and I uninstalled it by closing the start button and the using add remove programs. All is OK now as I just redid the build.

Start10, the first Windows 10 Start menu alternative!
I've used Stardock apps on and off over the years and they're generally very good. When "10" is released I'll have a look at Start10 along with Classic Shell. So far the stock menu is not cutting it for me and one of these replacements will be needed. By the way I imagine there will be a version of WindowBlinds for 10 as well.

I don't like to get in the habit of using these softwares but decided to try 'Start10' from Stardock and was surprised how decently it seemed to mesh with Build 10061.
Even with disabling Search (and Task View) 'Hey Cortana' still worked and doesn't cover the taskbar. The Default Start Menu could be pinned to the taskbar and the WinX Menu could be set to remain enabled.
However, after configuring and using it for a couple hours, it seems to be fraught with bugs, flashes and crashes, so be forewarned!

Classic Shell 4.2.1 is in bad shape right now. It doesn't load on boot up. So I uninstalled it and I am using the Free Pokki app for now. It also keeps the original Start Menu and has it's own button on the taskbar beside the native start menu. Very costumisable too. So far, so good. I'll wait till Classic Shell catch up before going back.

For me Classic Shell 4.2.1 has been working fine with Build 10074; the only thing that does not for my setup is the Start Screen button in the menu. If I press on in, nothing happens. So I have been using the Windows+W key combination. I have written on their forum a few days ago. But nobody has answered so far.
