I have a short slide show that works on one of my W10 PCs but not this one. It runs for a while and the gives me a useless error message. I'm told an error prevents it from running but tells me nothing else. Has anyone seen this situation?

the freeware utility that I used to diagnose screensaver and sleep issues is MCE standby tool, found here
Slick Solutions - MCE Standby Tool

it will show what program(s) are preventing sleep and has a counter for time since last user input, which is handy for checking whether a joystick or came controller is sending constant interrupts

Rashly disabling HIDs is unwise, I completely screwed my TEAC hifi USB sound driver doing that & had to remove + reinstall it to fix ( not trivial as it got stuck in a half removed/half repaired state)
any windows system that's been used for a while & thus has gone through some peripheral changes will claim to have lots of mice, keyboards & other gizmos known to it in device manager & it's not easy to work you which are truly redundant
In my case, because my 3rd party power A xbox360 controller is the screensaver blocker culprit and I don't want to unplug it, I set up a keyboard hot key to manually start the screensaver ( with help from google on how to do that), and I can use the sleep key on my keyboard as needed. So I can e.g. begin a spotify playlist & then hit the screensaver key to get music + active screensaver

Thanks Jimmy but my problem is not with sleeping or starting screen saver but keeping screen saver running. It seems to run a few minutes and then I get a black screen with this silly error message which tells me nothing.

Fixed for me with the latest windows update for build 1511 (OS build 10586.3). Screen idle timeout and lock screen now working fine with X52pro enabled.

I had issues with the screen saver not working (not even preview worked), my computer would not automatically go into sleep mode, would not go into hibernation and would not automatically shut the monitors off. I have 4 monitors and one of them is a touchscreen. I made this single change to disable "HID Compliant Whiteboard" under Human Interface Devices in the Device Panel and VOILA! everything now works! - The touchscreen function on the touchscreen monitor still works too! I know based on all the comments here this may not work for everyone but it's an easy thing to try and then easy to undo. I have not read the most recent comments to this long thread so another solution may have also been found but I want to give a big thank you to Weinber37 just the same!! With 4 monitors and a heavy duty HP desktop, this is going to save me some $$ in energy and also save my monitors from getting burned in.

Following several suggestions in this and other threads on this subject, I went into Settings/Device Manager and disabled seven drivers labeled "HID Compliant..........." The screen saver now comes on at the correct time. I haven't checked sleep mode or display shutoff yet, but strongly suspect they will also work as programmed. I previously tried uninstalling the drivers, but they re-installed every time I rebooted.

Thanks to everyone who worked this problem.:):)

(Later) The display shutoff also works.

Update: I went back and enabled the HID drivers one at a time. The one that was keeping the screensaver from coming on was the "HID Compliant Whiteboard" The other six have been re-enabled and are not interfering with the screen saver operation.

    New build solved the problem

The title says it all. The new Windows 10 build, after the 30 minutes or so to install has repaired the screensaver fault.

    Inoperative screen saver

I updated from Windows 7 to 10 last night and now I cannot get my Screensaver to work or get my screen to turn off in the power settings. Something must be causing the screen to stay awake. Any help would be great.
My screen saver was working fine when I installed 10 a few months ago but has quit working since then as well as the Power options. I have got it back working though.

I went to Task Manager and opened the "Process" tab and went through and ended the process for those processes I thought were unnecessary. I then went to the "Services" tab and did the same. I tested the screen saver by setting it for 2 minutes and waiting. It worked. I then rebooted and waited and nothing. I repeated the task realizing that some process was keeping the screen saver from triggering. Since I use the win 7 desktop, I went to the App desktop and noticed I had three apps that were constantly refreshing. Two weather feeds and a news feed. I unpinned them from the desk top and tested again. The screen saver and Power feature both worked. I rebooted and reset the screen saver to come in in 5 minutes and turn the monitor off in 10 minutes both worked and are continuing to work.

An update: My screen saver and power options continued to work fine until the last update. Now I am back to the same problem. I will try my previous process again and see if I can get them back.

Jimmy - Second post ever. Second post just saying thanks. Of course I knew this was possible, but had lost sight of this solution in trying to figure out the problem. Thanks for reminding me of this idea. Executed flawlessly in about 5 minutes.
