Laptop/Facebook rant
New laptop and I take it 500 miles cross-country from Kansas all the way to Texas. Did it survive the road trip?
Well...
I spent an entire day yesterday trying to figure out why Windows would start up, and then load to a black screen, every time with no login prompt and no startup image. Then I got into the recovery mode, got into the command prompt, and tried "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c:\ /offwindir=c:\windows" twice to see if it would work. Restarted the machine and ... it WORKED... Barely. Had done 2 system restores on it prior only to boot on the same black screen. Also, I did do a chkdsk for a few of those times -- it fixed file system errors, but it didn't find any bad sectors. When it finally did boot proper, it was slow, meaning I had to go in and defrag the thing, clean out the junk, and other loose ends.
What I was initially trying to get after is why Facebook, of all the places on the Internet, is wanting me to verify who I am when I'm logging in from across the country, or hell, a world away for that matter.
So I'm over here in Decatur, because my niece is going to turn five this Thursday.
