Which (UK consumer mag - respected one) condemns W10 Software

    Hi there

Which -- a highly respected and unbiased (usually) UK consumer magazine has piled in to Ms condemning W10 software.

Not sure if I entirely agree but this mag is not your usual bit of tacky / uninformed journalism.

While "Which?" can go over the top at times, my upgrade to Win10 was a nightmare.

Despite the Win10 advisor saying my PC was ready for Win10, it trashed the BIOS/UEFI, rendering the machine unbootable. In the end I replaced the motherboard as the most convenient repair option.

In Win10's defence, the original HDD continued with the installation and after 45 min or so blank screens, whirling cursors and many reboots, all was well.

I've also had trouble with basic network protocols following a big update, which were eventually resolved by using a recent image to restore everything.

I think a lot of the anti-feeling towards Windows 10 was the attempt to force it onto peoples systems. Despite what MS think people don't like change. Personally I don't either, I was quite happy rolling along with Windows 7 but I knew there was no getting away from 10 so when I got a new machine I tried to embrace it. But I would say I have not enjoyed the ride so far, On a £2,000 machine I am extremely precious about it and when software lets me down I have a very low tolerance for it.

I think there are a lot of bugs in Windows 10 and it seems like it could do something unpredictable at any stage. I'm hoping as it matures it will improve. But sadly nowadays nothing is allowed to mature into something really stable. Apple keep releasing iOS and changing things with every new version stacking new bugs ontop of old bugs that largely go unresolved. MS is the same, each new major build release brings it's own new set of bugs and problems. Some people thrive on the new stuff and enjoy working through the problems but I guess a lot of people, myself included, haven't got the time or energy to deal with update after update and battling with possible side effects. We just want stability and things to work as they did before. And unfortunately Windows 10 hasn't given that stability and re-assurance to me. Like I say, it's the just the mantra of tech now, MS are just one of many of the tech juggernauts doing it.
