    Some old computer ... "junk"?

Was cleaning out some stuff in our basement storage room a few weeks ago, and ran across a box I thought was empty, but to my surprise contained many items from my computing past.

Anybody need a SyQuest 230 MB ezflyer drive?

How about a 33.6 U.S. Robotics Sportster Faxmodem?

    Ah the '90s!

I went with the Iomega 250MB Zip drive instead, still have a computer with the drive and a USB version. The modem reminded me I have a 56Kbps model somewhere in my storage shed.

Yeah, I remember back then it was a big battle between SyQuest and the Zip drives. Although Zip was more ubiquitous, my friends convinced me to go with SyQuest due to their supposed technological superiority.

    Hi there

I still have an acoustic coupler - and it still works !!!! remember those where you attached the rubber cups to a phone handset and dialled your access number.

We used to logon to Newsgroups and Bulletin Boards (BBS's) in those days -- and "Netiquette" was quite strict and adhered to. If you didn't stick rigidily to "Netiquette" you would get into real trouble from the SYSOP and other members too -- in a way I wish we could bring back some of that Netiquette when I see how some of todays users behave on the Net.

    Cheers

The ol' War Games modem! Never actually had one of those -- our first modem was a 300 baud Hayes. I used to call bulletin boards back then as well. It was tough being on Apple because most boards were IBM-based. But when I switched to PC eventually, a whole new world opened up.

Lots of truth and memories there. 300 baud was like someone typing to you. Then I got a 4800 baud and things started flying...so I thought. (Also had a 1200 and 2400 between that.) Had a lot of fun on those old BBS's but as Jimbo said etiquette was way different then. Should still be that way.
