    Amazing real-time wind map (USA)


    Surface wind data comes from the National Digital Forecast Database. These are near-term forecasts, revised once per hour. So what you're seeing is a living portrait. (See the NDFD site for precise details; our timestamp shows time of download.) And for those of you chasing top wind speed, note that maximum speed may occur over lakes or just offshore.

    At -12F this morning, it's not hard to believe that the map shows the wind coming out of the northwest. We call it the good old Siberian Express.

    The link or the pic? The gif is Zok, the laser ray dragon from a cartoon I used to watch, The Herculoids. (Actually I still watch when I can find full episodes....guess I'll never grow up...but then, why start now......LOL)
