    Christmas alone

I was wondering how many of you are spending the holidays alone and how you feel about it, if that's not a to personal question.

I have been spending my Holidays alone for several years now and don't mind it at all. We had the most wonderful holidays when my father was alive then aging/death, no small children in the family and divorce changed that. I do miss those days, but I adjust rather easily to change. I find the worst thing about it.......... is the sympathy I get when someone asks about my Christmas Day. I tell them "it is my choice".

I had invitations until I turned down to many times. LOL I love my sister's Christmas dinners, but I will not eat in a home with a dozen dogs. When my mother was living she even turned down the doggy dinner after being there one time.

This being my second year in Florida and thus by myself for the second year in a row for Christmas.

Girlfriend may still come down here from the midwest but not until after the holidays, she is in the midst of renovating her new apartment and the fact that the weather up there is still really warm she wants to keep working on it.

It was my choice to move to Florida from the midwest, I retired early from my job and just couldn't stand another winter up there not doing anything, girlfriend at the time didn't give me a good reason to stay so I moved. I have made a really good friend with the neighbor guy but that's about it so far. Me and the girlfriend are going have a long talk about what we want out of life after the holidays, either we are going to be together more in some kind of a capacity or I guess It's time to move on, we shall see.

Thank you all for replying. It's interesting to hear what others do. I don't cook anymore so wouldn't invite any one over unless they enjoyed a good movie and brought popcorn over.

Terry I think you are making the right decision.

I'm married with three children so Christmas is hectic, but before I met my wife I spent a couple of Christmases on my own. I went to university 400 miles away from my family and never moved back after graduation, I worked right up until Xmas eve so never went back home.

I never used to mind being alone, I've always enjoyed my own company and while I love watching my family open their presents, I sometimes miss the solitude.

I hope everyone has a good one, regardless of how they spend it.

FH, I think most everyday is a good one for me. Holidays just slip right past me except for Christmas. You can't miss it for the decorations everywhere. I have had some mobility problems, but that's improved a lot.

I think if I was younger......before family I might dislike being alone. We always seem to want what we haven't or can't have.

Maybe for most people but not me. I am more comfortable with myself than I am with other people. My mother was the same way she was a very independent woman and happy. I am proud to be like her.

Well it's just hubby and me, children have all grown up and got families of their own. Because of health issues I wouldn't be able to cope with loads here again and we've decided as it's just the two of us this is just another Friday and we'll have our Christmas Dinner on Sunday.

We don't see the point of the fuss and expense of doing 2 chicken and all the trimmings dinners today then again on Sunday. We're happy with that and hubby is in his office and I'm in here with my Notebook perfect.
