A good cooking tip from someone who knows.

Just a little cooking tip for you young folks from one of usolder folks who has had so much more experience. I suppose that most of youlike to keep your spices in alphabetical order so that they are easy to find.It seems like a good idea doesn't it? NOT SO! You must remember that cinnamon and cayennepepper both start with the letter "C". Well I suppose that youalready know that so that's not the reason I mentioned it. After I give youthis hot idea, please do not make any assumptions about what I may or may nothave done. I am only passing this on because we senior having so much wisdomlike to pass on good information to the young folks. Here's the problem withCinnamon and Cayenne pepper next to each other. If one of you should happen tograb the cayenne pepper instead of the cinnamon it could make your sweet rollshave somewhat of an off flavor. Again, please do not make any assumptions. Ijust like to pass on good advice. Good luck on your baking.

I'm from Ohio--born and raised in the same town. At my age you probably couldn't drag me out with a crane. But if I wanted to go anywhere just for the food, I go down to your neck of the woods. I watch some of the cooking shows on TV and when I see the cooking down there it makes me hungry. By the way, you certainly don't think that I made a mistake of putting in cayenne instead of cinnamon do you?

Take it from a lifelong sufferer of acid reflux disease. Spicy food doesn't taste as good the "second time around".

    Hi there

try as from today going into ANY food outlet in the EU -- new regulations require foods containing about 90% of what we eat have to be warned against possible allergies. The warning list is now LONGER than the menu !!!

Now I don't want to be unsympathetic -- but I can't remember people suffering or dying when eating out in a Restaurant when I was a kid ("many moons ago").

What's up with all this "Gluten" (Bread without "Flour" etc ) -- maybe that's why apart from the Jewish areas of NYC it's impossible to get a decent tasting loaf of Bread in the entire U.S.A.

I understand that some nut allergies are a problem but why didn't we ever hear of those years ago --I'm sure if people DIED eating certain foods it would have made the news even in those days.

Help please as I really can't understand what's going on here.

BBC News - Food allergy laws enforced in restaurants and takeaways

    Cheers

Jimbo, I agree with what you said. I believe they go way to far on the warnings. As an example, buy any small power tool and the list of warnings are longer that the information about the too itself. And how about cooking instructions that tell you to put it in the oven for 1 hour at 425 degrees (Fahrenheit). It will then say something like, "Caution, it will be hot when removing from the oven. I thought that here in the U.S.A is the only place they do things like that. But getting back to eating I have a strict diet that I'm on it goes like this: Eat whatever you like (using common sense of course) and don't eat anything that you don't' like. I've got to say that I am very fortunate at my age I have no significant problems. I'm not saying it's because of what I eat, I'm just very fortunate and no doubt inherited good genes from my mom and/or dad.
